Then please quantify their success in growing Dayton into a desirable city.

Here. I am no Esrati fan. However, he does a nice job reporting what the local newspapers will not.

Personally, I think Dayton should do away with council/manager form of local government. Dayton does not have a strong mayor position. The mayor has the bully pulpit but is only one vote of five. 4 to 1 are very poor odds that a mayor can get much done. Otherwise, the burden of running the city falls on the City Manager. So in Dayton's case, epic fail very aptly describes the effectiveness of city council/commission in growing Dayton. Dayton city government is also very top heavy. It has not downsized in any significant way but the city itself has lost more than a third of it's population.

Oh, but the local newspapers did report such things in 1986 (25 years before 2011). His case is mild compared to one poor little lady who got tossed in jail to the astonishment of some long time citizenry. And, such events could be set right in the hands of land speculators who busied themsleves in political agitation.

Well, I guess I can spell too well today.... The above was supposed to read "themselves" not "themsleves."

I would guess if a similar situation arose again, it would be reported again.

As for a mayor who "REALLY" runs things (until he/she is voted out of office and someone who changes everything around is voted in)....

You've heard of John F. Kennedy. Well, there's "a Kennedy clan kin" in Dayton, has been for about 35 years. Don't see the need for any more political doings than are already around.

Gary Leitzel replaced Rhine McLin. He was not politically connected in anyway and was not expected to win. He has not been able to accomplish very much because he is in the 4 to 1 category on many issues.
