I-75 north and southbound was flooded yesterday between Troy and Piqua around 8pm. Traffic was stopped and the highway closed. I was commuting from Toronto Canada without any delays, until that very small stretch of highway.

This same exact issue apparently occurred last year!

Unacceptable. Whoever is responsible needs to install proper drainage on this area. No other area on I-75 (some at even lower altitude than this stretch) was effected and those areas received the same amount of rain fall!

Luckily I have a knack for not allowing the incompetence of others to negatively effect me, so after sitting in traffic for an hour and giving up on local authorities to properly re-route traffic, I navigated my way off the highway traveling against traffic on the 25A ramp, and followed 25A until I was able to jump back on the freeway to head south. Had to drive through some flooded areas on 25A. As soon as I got on I-75, north bound traffic was STILL backed up for miles but I was home free.

What is the deal with this area and their reluctance to not put proper measures in place to not impede traffic on I 75 and inconvenience everyone?

Last thing I need to deal with on an 8 hour commute back from Canada is flooding in my home state....

Hopefully these folks can get it together sooner rather than later.

I-75 by Findlay, Ohio was flooded over several years ago because of the Blanchard river overflowing it's banks.

Wow! I can't imagine getting stuck in that. What a miracle everyone got out and that the water went down quickly.

And 48 people displaced from Laynecrest Manor apartments on Gerlaugh Rd. They've pretty much lost everything they owned.

OP it was a freak act of nature. No reason to passively agressively blame ODOT.

Who would leave that kind of a dip in the interstate?

You have an engineering degree? Please explain it then.

Agreed. It's not like the road was engineered so that someday it would rain so hard that the OP would be inconvenienced on his/her way back from Canada ...

Please read before commenting.

You missed the part about this same problem happening last year in this same area. Was last year a freak of nature also? Was the "po-dunk" level of slow response time to direct traffic faster or slower than last year?

Did you read the part about thousands being inconvenienced stranded on that small stretch of I-75 on the highway?

Can we get some civil engineers out there to ensure that this doesn't happen again? I hope someone from this area that had to deal with this problem takes initiative and spoon feeds those in charge so that the issue can be properly resolved. Seems like that's the only way to drive home a resolution to a problem these days.

I'm more concerned about all those who lost all their possessions when their homes were flooded out.
