Question About Dayton
I have accepted a great job in Dayton, and I would like some information on a area of Dayton. I have found a nice house and I'm interested in learning about the area. The house is about a mile from the Miami Valley Golf Club, and around 1.4 miles from the Wesleyan Nature center. I know nothing of Dayton, but I am from Northwest Ohio. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

You're wanting to know about the neighborhood, or the Dayton area itself?

Actually, I should have read your post more clearly. You did in fact indicate you wanted to know about "an area of Dayton". My bad. Sorry.
Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with that specific neighborhood. I'm more familiar with the eastern and southern areas of town. If you were looking for more general info about Dayton, I could have helped out a bit more with that. I'm sure someone will come along soon and be able to help you out. Good luck!

All I know about this area is that your main source of shopping will come from strip centers and big box stores in Englewood, Miller Lane (Beachwood Exit on I-75), and Huber Heights. The area around OH49 and Shiloh Springs used to host stores for the Salem Mall. This as since been torn down and many ofthe businesses (including Wal-Mart) have left. Most people will tell you the area (looks like Upper Dayton View) is not safe. I won't make prejudgements to places I've never personally seen. What I will tell you is look first before you buy and if you feel comfortable (there are good people in those neighborhoods) then go right in. As for schools, the Dayton Public ones probably are worst in the area. That's just the sad fact of life. Coming to Dayton, be prepared to have to drive everywhere. The bus routes and times I've heard to be a pain but at least there is a system if needed.

Thanks, for the info. I was hoping since there is a golf club nearby it would be a decent area. The realtor pointed that out, so I figured that was a good sign. I will just use the recommendations for the suburbs and live there. Next question what suburbs are near the AFB, as I will be working near there.

Beavercreek, Fairborn, Huber Heights - and a bit further east, Xenia.
Out of those areas, I would recommend Beavercreek or Xenia (if you don't mind a bit longer drive.) You could also look at Yellow Springs.

That would be the "Benchwood" exit; sorry, didn't mean to mar an otherwise very informative post!

Hi, just some friendly advice, I would definitely check out this area before you decide to live there. The reason you can get such an amazing house for such a low cost, is because there tends to be a lot of crime in that area. It is also about 20-25 minutes from the base. I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for in your new home/community, but this an area that most would not move too. I would do some more research before you sign anything from your realtor. If you are looking for diversity, I think you'd probably be more happy downtown in a historic distric like Oregon, St. Anne's Hill or Huffman.
Best of luck!

Whoops! I guess I have always read that exit sign incorrectly. It doesn't help when given the wrong name. Thanks for the correction.
