Hi all--

All right, back after a Christmas hiatus.

More Dayton development to come:

Former Norton's Owner to Open New Tavern in Kettering
Quote:
A new pub and night spot to be called Dog’s Breath Tavern is coming to 1912 E. Whipp Road near the Oak Creek Plaza.

Fred McGhee, who owned and operated the former Norton’s Sports Bar & Grille and later the Pavilion Grille in Kettering, is co-owner of Dog’s Breath Tavern. McGhee said renovations are underway at the new tavern, and he is shooting for a late January or early February opening.

The 5,400-square-foot space, which formerly housed the Bada Bing Lounge, will seat about 200. McGhee estimated that Dog’s Breath Tavern will employ 12 to 15 people.
Retail Vacancy Drops To 14.6% in 2012
Quote:
The 2012 Greater Dayton Retail Market Study prepared by Miller Valentine GEM Real Estate Group showed that 14.6 percent of retail space in the Dayton region was vacant in 2012, down from 15.6 percent in 2011 and 16.6 percent in 2010. The regional numbers include Springfield, Lebanon, Middletown, Troy, Piqua and Sidney.

Figures for the immediate Dayton area were even more encouraging, with the retail vacancy rate dropping to 13 percent in 2012 from 15 percent in 2011 and 16.3 percent in 2010.

The survey results “demonstrate a strengthening of both the area and regional retail market,” Miller Valentine GEM officials said in the report.
Dayton Region Sees Positives From Defense Bill
Quote:
Several key provisions in the next defense budget bill will benefit Southwest Ohio.

U.S. Rep. Mike Turner, R-Centerville, said the latest version of the bill includes language to bolster cooperation between government agencies in the development of unmanned aerial systems, promoting and expanding the educational opportunities at the Air Force Institute of Technology and continued funding for the Lima Tank Plant.

Dayton Named #1 Happiest City To Work
Quote:
On a five-point scale, employees were asked to rate their workplace happiness on the following factors: work-life balance, relationship with the boss and co-workers, work environment, job resources, compensation, growth opportunities, company culture, company reputation, daily tasks, and control over the work done on a daily basis.
Forbes published the results, which show that Dayton beat out all the competition with an overall score of 4.02. The city received highest marks for “the people you work with,” which scored 4.33. (emphasis added)
Springboro Engineering Firm Embarks On $2.5M Expansion
Quote:
The company is embarking on a $2.5 million project to expand its facility and bring its manufacturing operations in-house. “We’re so busy right now that we’ve decided to start manufacturing our own parts so that we have better control of our operation,” said John Dunn, general manager for the Springboro location, which is the company’s only U.S. operation.
Dunn said the company has been engineering and designing the dies for the closure systems, and outsourcing the manufacturing, but now it will be able to do its own assembly.

Cape Verde Coffee....

Excellent!

I liked Ohio Coffee, but they are buried in that lobby space, and their hours dont work for me.

TriComB2B, One of Dayton's Largest Marketing Firms, Moves Downtown
Quote:
TriComB2B on Wednesday announced it signed a 10-year lease agreement for 18,000-square-feet of space at Performance Place, part of the Schuster Performing Arts Center at the corner of Second and Main Streets. The company will bring 31 employees in the move, which is scheduled to happen in the second quarter.

TriComB2B — which deals exclusively in the business to business marketing of technical products and services — has added more than a dozen new clients and experienced a 25 percent growth in revenue since 2010. The company says moving to downtown will cut its lease costs by more than 10 percent and allow room for growth.

This is a good example of these small- to- mid sized business that you don't hear much about but are a key part of the regional economic ecosystem.

Hi Dayton Sux--

Not only that, but 18,000 square feet is a lot of space for just 31 employees. Even after accounting for the supplies, computers, etc. that this company will invariably bring into the office, there's still a lot of room to grow. In fact, that company could probably triple in size and still fit in that office space.

A hundred jobs coming downtown? I'd take it.

There was some talk that Roto Rooter was going to move their HQ to Austin Blvd, too.

That Austin Blvd area is becoming white-hot!
