That said, I'm with you in feeling that there won't be enough demand for it - or more likely that growth here would come at the expense of another. Then again, like downtown jobs moving to Austin Landing, I would rather see the jobs move to a suburbs as opposed to leaving the area altogether.
I agree. I just think it is something not needed at this time. Maybe in 10 years if the area gains more jobs.

It is early in the process for these projects, but still some good news.

^Good summary of what's happening in city limits.

This could be good news... looks like an easy portfolio for Charlie Simms or another developer to acquire:

Yeah. I still laugh when I read their isn't enough parking. There is more than enough. Find a place to park and walk a little bit. When I visit other cities, I almost never park that close to where I am going or end up. You get out and walk around the city. Of course, part of the problem is the stuff you want to go to in Dayton isn't close to each other.

Louisville Developer Wants to Create New Lifestyle District This is good news for downtown Dayton, but I wonder if it'll have any effect on Garden Station, which is just up the street.

I was just going to post about that. Hopefully, they do a good job. There seems to be a lot of good things going on downtown. The one big thing, though, is we need to get more jobs back downtown. If all of the young people who would live downtown are working at Austin Landing, for example, we won't have anybody to live, etc.... downtown in these new places.

^Very cool!

It would be good if this city could figure out more ways to keep the Air Force Museum's 1 million+ out of area visitors per year around longer, and some more investment in the Wright-Dunbar area would probably be a good start. It's also probably the inner west's only ticket out of poverty to revitalization. Wright-Dunbar itself is doing quite well, but it is an island of only a few blocks. If some more investment does happen, I could see maybe a tourist-centric area pop up even with a hotel right along south Broadway. The areas a couple blocks out in all directions would need a lot of improvement though, at least out to Wolf Creek and as far west as Paul Lawrence Dunbar St. Not impossible, but it would take more of a concentrated effort than I'm seeing now.

Either way, it's good news. Hoping for the best!

Yes, definitely good news IMO. I thought the project might be dead since I hadn't heard anything about it since early 2013. Glad to hear it's still around though.

But you called it with Garden Station. Here's some earlier discussion on the issue:
http://www.city-data.com/forum/dayto...p-develop.html

The city owns the property, and has alluded to wanting Garden Station out earlier. Obviously GS leaders don't want to recreate it elsewhere, but legally I don't know if they have a leg to stand on since they are only land users, not owners (I don't think they are renters because I don't think they pay rent). I think circa 2013 articles stated the developers would like to include GS in the development, but just like Randy Gunlock saying he wanted to attract new businesses to the area with Austin Landing, what one says is often not congruent with their actual intentions. It will be an interesting story, and I hope for the best for Garden Station.

What would be nice is if we could get people who visit to stay in the Downtown Dayton area. With the Oregon District, Riverscape, UD, and hopefully the Midtown District. Shop, eat, etc.... downtown and then visit places like the Air Force Museum. You can go downtown, maybe Scene 75, Carillon Park, the Air Force Museum, etc.... They need to find a way to coordinate and market all of this.
