They'll be taking over a long-vacant building. Also, notice how Five Oaks is now 'North Dayton.'
hahaha yep I saw that! Here's Esrati's take on it - he calls it "downtown":

Quincy’s Fish moving downtown – Esrati

Regardless, I'm happy to see them doing well. That site is prime real estate with the new interchange, so glad to see a local business going in there instead of a chain (if that interchange went in 10 years ago, the Main St. strip would probably look like downtown Zanesville: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Za...210522d8ad29d7 )

But yeah, very interesting discourse on how the DBJ chose to perceive "North Dayton" vs. "West Dayton". I've spent all my life in Dayton, and everyone I know perceives anything west of the Miami River / Stillwater River as "West", with the Northridge stuff + Old North Dayton being "North", and anything south of the Mad River / east of the Miami being "East".

But then I know about this time last year CarpathianPeasant was discussing the idea of how she perceived "West" to be the area to the south of Wolf Creek only, and I've also come across old newspapers that always seem to call the Salem Corridor "Northwest" rather than west (looking back, I do remember the idea of "Northwest Dayton" as a reference point a lot more in the '90's). So some interesting discourse there.

I kind of think of it as "North" Dayton when I am going to it. I think just because it feels like I am going north and then cross the river.

It's just funny to me because in the last 2.5 years, I've gone from living in "ghetto" (hate that word) Five Oaks on the west side to living in the mayor's 'inclusive' neighborhood (say what?) to living in 'North Dayton' (aka Downtown).

My inner suburbanite is once again rejoicing, this is in my neck of the woods!

Kroger eyes new, larger store in Troy | www.daytondailynews.com

Maybe it's a wild card, but I think Troy could really use a DLM. The market is affluent enough to support it IMO. But this is a step in the right direction.

I agree. I am kind of surprised they don't.

This is good for Dayton. Not just because they chose a Dayton company, but an Activated Spaces Pop-Up Program. It is great seeing those companies do well.

Dewey's Pizza Opens Today at Austin Landing
Quote:
The 3,500-square-foot restaurant will seat about 90 and employs 40 to 50, a Dewey’s spokeswoman said this morning.

Austin Landing is Dewey’s 19th location, and 2nd in the Dayton region: Dewey’s operates a restaurant at 131 Jasper Street just off Brown Street near the University of Dayton. The Cincinnati-based pizza chain operates restaurants in Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland and St. Louis.

Dewey’s had purchased properties in downtown Centerville to open a restaurant there, but pulled the plug on those plans in December 2013 after multiple regulatory issues arose with the site...
My note: I remember being a regular at Dewey's Pizza at Newport on the Levee throughout high school and most of college. That was a blast. I'm definitely intrigued and will have to visit this location ASAP.
