A view from The Landing; only time I've seen downtown this lit up because the NCAA is in town.

Sadly, Drexel Dave is MIA as far as his excellent photo blog is concerned.

Adding to such a work would probably get really depressing. I imagine he got burned out on it.

Only so many butt cracks and street fights to photograph.

I talked to him about it several years ago, and he simply felt the blog was finished the way it is now. So, he decided to keep it online, but not add to it any longer.

Looking south along Ludlow St. - I think this was early on a Sunday morning

From here (the 75/35 interchange), Downtown doesn't look too bad.

A bit of a story on the Moraine assembly: the workers here were represented by the IUE-CWA, not the UAW as popularly believed. Some dozen years prior they had gone independent and struck their own labor contract with General Motors. At one point the IUE-CWA (which is actually an electrician's and communication worker's union) represented some 60,000 manufacturing employees, mostly at GM and its subsidiaries. Of course, when the taxpayer-financed bailout came, only the UAW and its political buddies in Washington had the leverage to extract a "rehire guarantee" out of General Motors even though the new GM was a new corporate entity and thus bound by none of the previous labor agreements - that UAW workers laid off during the crisis would be the first to get their jobs back.

The IUE-CWA, and the workers in Moraine, were thrown under the bus, despite getting numerous awards for product reliability.

Of course, the Lordstown assembly plant in northern Ohio (the plant that gave us brilliant cars like the Vega, Chevette, and Cavalier) is still running at full speed thanks to its UAW representation.

Wonderful pictures here! Don't stop posting them. Look around you. There is beauty everywhere! If it's not beautiful, it's interesting! My best friend was News Director at WYSO until she recently relocated to Kansas. She used to take some great pics and share them with me. I'd post them, but they are not mine.

Thanks! I took some over the summer of the Schwind building before it was demolished and some others of downtown. I will be sure to post them soon!
