Most people who post reviews on apartment websites tend to have had negative experiences. The hundreds of people who live at these complexes who have no problems rarely go online to let others know.

Everyone complains about tons of crime, violence, dirty places, drugs, broken things that maintenance doesn't fix for weeks. In almost all of the reviews I read people saying "there are better/cleaner/more safe complexes to choose instead"... but they never name names. Can I get some suggestions?

My budget is about $800-$850 for 2 bed/1 bath apartment. I would like to not commute very far because as a southern California native I'm not used to driving in snow or heavy rain.
Hello! I used to live in a little town just west of Miamisburg called Germantown and I passed through Miamisburg daily on my way to work for about 20 years. It is a small community and there are old parts and newer parts. I am attaching a link to the city for you which has info on the area. You might also consider giving the police department a call and asking them if they can steer you to a safe area where there are not a lot of problems. I used to work for a police department in the area there and we got inquiries like that all the time. My husband and I moved away from the area and I haven't been there in a couple of years, so I couldn't tell you what is currently available. Maybe try and make a short trip out there and get a feel for it, and take a look around. Here is the link: The City of Miamisburg
Good luck and welcome to Ohio. I think you are in for a major culture shock. Sorry!!!

Germantown is outstanding. Cute as a button and the the town is in excellent shape. Not a blade of grass out-of-place.

I thought so too. I lived there for about 15 years. Had no qualms being out and about after dark, the houses in many areas are those Victorian era homes that had a quaint look, I could walk to the Pretzel Festival, friendly folks, very low crime rate, and I felt very safe and was very happy there. The schools are excellent although I didn't/don't have kids. My sister's children went to school there too. Then, after I got married I moved to Beavercreek with my husband - and that was also pretty nice. I do miss Ohio, believe it or not!!!!
