For those who have not yet heard, Process Equipment Co. is planning a major investment in Dayton's west side near the old Delphi Plants on McCall St. between James H. McGee and Abbey.

I guess what I am wondering is whether you all think this 180 reversal in strategy from building a suburban campus in Huber Heights is a wise business move. The building's asking price is $3.5 mil, far cheaper than the cost of constructing such a facility, but I have to wonder about the modifications necessary to do the advanced manufacturing discussed in the article. If I am correct, I believe the building used to belong to McCall Magazine, and was used for printing (?).

Either way, it seems this development will be a boon to the west side. If done right, it could potentially serve as a catalyst for development. Or do you all think this will just be another path to broken dreams?

Path to broken dreams? I am a top detractor of Dayton in all respects, but capital is capital and one thing that Dayton has been starved for for decades is actual investment from outside. If this business adequately funds such a plant, they have access to an underutilized labor pool second to none in the US.

This isn't some small potatoes wishful thinking thing like another Austin style slogan campaign or a bunch of hipsters trying to gentrify some ghetto by starting a gastropub in a bombed out shell of a crack house. Money talks.
