Opps, forgot about that area. I consider that more Dayton/Butler township than I do Vandalia. Oh yea, tons of restaurants there. It is located on the western side of I-75 just south of the I-75/I-70 interchange.

I have to correct a few people. Vandaloa-Butler does have a Wal-Mart Supercenter, does have a Kroger, does have a lot of stores and is gorwing. it is not a bedroom community. It has alot of office buildings with many corporations larger than that of Huber or Englewood or Tipp. The problem with Tipp City is that it has a reputation for being racist. I am not trying to stereotype but unfortunately the city isn't very accepting of diversity-it's just known for that. It's sort of old-school. Vandalia-Butler is more diverse but not so over-cultured that your kids won't be able to get a grip of reality. Vandalia has probably around 110 different eateries compared to Englewood having roughly 40 and Tipp having around 30 and Huber having around 90. But the thing is-besides the main drags in Vandalia-Butler (Dixie and National) the city is very quaint. It has alot of open parks and still alot of hih-quality developable land. Vandalia Butler City Schools have scored the highest ratings of Excellence since 2001. Infact, the city plans on building a new high-quality middle school this year and spending $30 million to renovate the high school by making it architecturally gorgeous. It is more of a quiet place. However it has a high quality business environment (International Airport, IAMS, GE, many more). There are many job offerings here. The area boasts it's diadem of architecture- the Vandalia Recreation Center which people come from all over to visit. It was designed by world-known architects in 2001. The area has alot more going for it long-term compared to the other short-term boom towns like Englewood and Huber Heights and Troy which are very incohesive.

If you are going to be making sweeping allegations that a whole community is racist, please provide an example (remember, extraordinary claims need extraordinary evidence ).
I don't know if using eateries, many of them national chains on Miller Ln, is the best way to call a town diverse. Just saying. Also, do you have a complete restaurant list for posting?

I think a lot of people prefer Vandalia and Butler Township because the big shopping isn't there, which results in less traffic. My parents have lived there for over 30 years, having moved from Huber Heights.
The "city" itself is quite small, and the main drag isn't the old fashioned one most people expect. The courts/police are located on a street behind the Wendy's restaurant on National Road, so you would easily miss them. Butler Township, the area surrounding the city, is still very "country" if not rural...2 lane roads, houses with acreage, and the occasional farm/fruit orchard. Lots of developments, some brand new.
There used to be at least 3 small groceries in Vandalia, but from what I understand they all closed now and Krogers opened a huge store on Northwoods Blvd off of Dixie. There are a couple pharmacies--Ken's and Hock's, and tons of fast food/pizza joints. For big box shopping, most go to Huber Heights. For mall shopping, you have to go to Beavercreek or Centerville. Further down Dixie, Miller Drive has tons of restaurants, Wal-Mart, Sam's, liquor store, etc, as TammyM said.
The airport is right there, so depending on where you buy, you might be on one of the flight paths. There is an Air Show every summer that draws tons of tourists. Some great businesses--a good friend of mine just opened a jewelry store on National Rd, another friend runs a tattoo parlor. Some office building in town, more on Miller Lane.

That Kroger in Northwoods reminds me of the Wal-Mart in Englewood/Clayton becauase they are both big box shopping options set in industrial parks. Oddly enough that is how they used to do it in Germany, too.

I apologize for coming off the way I did. But I think that what I said was that Tipp City was known for that. I didn't say everyone was, I said I was stereotyping for that reason. the city is known for racism having a prevelance in alot of the community's citizens.

I would just like to comment that the website has updated their statistics (which is on a point system 1-100) with the Dayton area school ratings and has listed the top schools in the Dayton region to be:
1. Oakwood (-1)
2. Vandalia-Butler (+4)
3. Bellbrook (+1)
4. Springboro (-2)
5. Tipp City (+1)
The Top Worst are:
1. Dayton Public (+11)
2. Trotwood-Madisson (+1)
3. Huber Heights (-12)
4. Northmont (-5)
5. West Carrolton (same)
This is updated on an average based on the 2007-2008 and the 2008-2009 school years.
I would also like to comment that Vandalia-Butler's trendline is edging closer to Oakwood. The last update gave Vandalia-Butler an 87 and Oakwood a 93 and now the update shows Oakwood as a 92 and Vandalia-Butler at a close 91. In the near future, based on Vandalia-Butler City School's trend and the fact that they are getting to new major expansions in their school systems (renovated and expanded high school facility and new massive middle school), we might see Vandalia-butler take the #1 spot between 2009 and 2010. Good luck to Dayton area schools and continue to improve!

I'm not sure where you are getting your information, can you provide the link? Anyway, the way in which you decided to write the above post is VERY misleading, as Huber, Northmont and West Carrolton are no where near the worst districts in the area. In fact, I went to the ODE wesbite here ODE: iLRC Districts Home
I pulled up the lastest ratings I saw, and this is how the state ranked each district:
Here's the district wide results:
Oakwood 107.8
Centerville 104.6
Bellbrook 104.5
Springboro 104
Tipp City 103
Beavercreek 102.9
Northmont 101.5
Vandalia-Butler 101.2
Huber Heights 94.6
West Carrollton 93.2
.
Fairborn 91.4
.
Mad River 91.1
.
Northridge 84.9
.
Trotwood 81.6
.
Jefferson 75.5
.
Dayton 70
Also for frame of reference. .the state ALSO ranks each individual school, here's a quick look at a couple of the high schools in montgomery county:
Oakwood HS 113.6
Centerville 108.2
Northmont 105
Vandalia-Butler 103.2
