PSA, a major regional carrier for US Airways is headquartered at DAY, so that's my guess for employment. Indy has a number of regional airline HQ's as well, so job transfer would make sense.

OP, 7660 Turtle Creek looks pretty well cared for as a rental, at least from the 2 year old street view photo from the outside. I'd ask for some interior pics too, but you'd probably have to contact the property manager.

Vandalia schools are not on the same level as Northmont or Tipp, but they are not bad either. They probably sit on par (at least test scoring wise) as Miamisburg or Troy. Schools are nice, most being recently renovated or new. The three biggest downsides to that house (aka why it's so cheap) is 1) the location, pretty close to I-70 so highway noise plus northern suburbs vs. more amenity rich southern ones, 2) the schools, which are still pretty good, 3) the actual basic home layout. Tri-levels were huge here in the late 70's through 1990's especially but they are usually seen as outdated in style now. This home, though looks well cared for and the pool's landscaping seems well kept too.

If the home were a newer colonial in Centerville it would probably run $500-700 more. Even if it were a similar tri-level in Centerville, it would run $300-400 more because of location.

I'd say visit the schools if you have a chance, talk with neighbors and see the place. It is certainly worth investigating.

Looking at Performance Index scores from state testing, Vandalia seems to hold its own. Letter grade wise, they are all about the same.

See the DDN map/graphic for info: http://www.city-data.com/forum/dayto...ort-cards.html

Tipp = 105.0
Vandalia/Butler = 103.0
Troy = 101.9
Northmont = 101.2

Of course, they are still all great schools and all would provide stellar educations. I was a little surprised at Tipp's 4-year graduation rate being close to 90 percent. Maybe it skews lower due to smaller grade sizes. My guess is the graduating class at Tipp can't be more than 200.

I'd agree. Only other thing I would add is that construction is expected to begin on widening I-70 to three lanes each way instead of two from Airport Access to Brookville around 2016. That will add a lot of road noise right by your house in the near future

And the fact that it is located right next to the I-70 / Airport Access interchange probably doesn't help either. Otherwise the area should be a very nice neighborhood.

Also agreed. Gauging the outsider perspective of the community is always helpful for us. Sometimes we look past the obvious because we have been here so long!

Depending on what time your husband needs to leave for the airport, it will take 20-25 minutes just to go a short distance.

I'm from Englewood and now live north of Indy. I would stay away from Englewood and Vandalia, both are crappy little cities. We lived on the Tipp Troy line the last 3 years in Ohio and if I had to go back to OH that's where I would go.

I'm going to challenge you on this. The bolded part of your quote is a rather non-specific statement. Would you be willing to clarify what you mean from your experience?

I think it depends what someone is looking for. Tipp and Troy have a more quaint, small-town "country" feel while Englewood and Vandalia have a more "suburban" feel due to their proximity to the airport, the I-70/I-75 crossroads, and location on the outskirts of Dayton. Also, Tipp/Troy would be farther from the city, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective.

Englewood used to be an upper middle class area, quiet, clean and not much crime. Now the Trotwood element is moving in and crime has gone up. Home prices are down and they whole area is looking rather shabby and run down. BTW, I owned a small business in Englewood for 13 years, owned 3 houses over 20 years and am originally from Trotwood, mother still lives there. Oh and my brother and his family live off of Main street. Husbands family also lives there. I'm very familiar with the area.

...except that the median household income is now higher in Englewood than it is in Tipp City or Troy.
