Default Where to live in Dayton, Ohio

My wife will be starting her residency at (Miami Valley Hospital-MVH) and planning to move there with our three and a half year old .... any idea which city would be most convenient and safe to rent an apartment and that is not a long commute from MVH?

Most suburbs would be no more then 20 minutes from MVH.

Try Kettering, Centerville, and Beavercreek. Oakwood's closer, nicer, but lacks in the number of apartments for rent. The other suburbs have their choice. Look back in some of the previous Dayton threads to see opinions on these cities.

Actually, Oakwood has a lot of homes and doubles for rent, you would just never know it unless you lived here....they seem to be tucked in among the single family homes.

You'd be about 10 minutes from MVH with a very easy commute and your daughter would in a school system that is nationally ranked. . .and the best in the dayton area. Oakwood would be my first choice for you.

But, I agree.. also check out Kettering, Beavercreek and Centerville as well.

Well, you learn something new everyday. Are they the buildings around the Oakwood shopes? Those looked like multi-family and they did appear real nice. I just think the other suburbs have more to offer, but maybe that's because they are bigger. IMO, if you can find something in Oakwood, take it.

You may want to try renting a house too. It's a military community and many folks rent nice homes when they have to PCS (change duty stations). We had a home in Fairborn which we couldn't sell, but the military made us move anyway. So we rented it out for 5years and when the housing market was viable, we sold it.

Research some of the past postings about the suburbs of Dayton. I personally prefer the northern ones.

Linden Heights in east Dayton is a stable area. These folks keep their properties well maintained and it's relatively safe. Around Christmas time, some of the light display are lovely.
