What Is There That's North (And West) of Dayton? (Trotwood: transplants, real estate)

Peace and quiet.


A couple of people who post in here do have a clue, a couple don't. Those that do (unfortunately) tend to use words like "rural."

One can also find peace and quiet in some historic districts. Many (not all) of the people who buy into those do so not only with the idea of staying there but with the intent of doing a little building. Historic districts tend to be a little more stable than ordinary neighborhoods.

(And, if one is looking for a fast turn-over in real estate, the best places to consider are near institutions ... like WPAFB.)

That's why I like living in a rural area, I can walk 5 minutes to the east and be in downtown Lebanon, walk 5 minutes to the west and be by a cornfield, walk 5 minutes to the north and be in the woods, walk 5 minutes south and be in an area of historic homes. It's just a shame there is so much sprawl here, the transplants think they live in the "burbs" but they tend to be "tards"!

^Sounds like you are in a nice spot!

And actually what you described would also describe a lot of locations in the northwest part of the area well too... I know this is definitely true for Old Town Trotwood, Brookville, and Englewood in a lot of spots. A few minute walk or bike ride will put you in a nice expansive park, cornfields, at a store, or in the center of town.

But is this really a rural area?

I live in a township that doesn't even have its own firehouse, let alone services. The Post Office uses private contractors. There is no fiber, cable, or DSL. Cell-coverage is spotty; likewise for digital over-the-air television. The nearest gas-station is 7 miles away. And the biggest danger on the road is collision with a wayward deer. Oh, and according to Google Maps, this is only 24 miles away from the center of downtown Dayton.

So much for sprawl....
