Default Special report on Dayton gangs

The Dayton Daily News features a special report on Dayton-area gangs on their website today. It includes a lot of good info including an interactive Dayton/national map.

Interesting. I knew Dayton wasn't crime free, but it seemed as safe as anywhere up in NE Ohio when I visited a few years ago.

I think that the article on gangs shows that gang violence is a problem all over. The interactive map shows how local gangs are connected to national gangs. It's not like I'm worried about my own safety. In general, if you stay away from crime or drugs, it doesn't directly effect you. However, I am glad that the city is working to combat the problem. Violence on Third & Main effects the city's image. It is a shame that some kids grow up in environments where the only way for them to feel like a part of a family is to join a gang. This shows the importance of family, safe recreation areas, etc.

The location of Dayton is part of the drug problem. Being at the intersection of I-70 & I-75 brings drugs in from all parts of the country.

I'm in the suburbs and don't see or know of any gang problems around me.
