Just a few months ago, Wright State had a gigantic budget surplus. Something screwy happened and now they have a big deficit. Also, they had been told repeatedly that they needed $3 million to host this event, and that various governmental and political organizations would reimburse them. When the cost magically shot up by $5 million, those organizations weren't willing to pay the extra $5 million, and with the unexpected deficit, this was a better thing to cut than professors or other things that would be more beneficial to the university in the long run.

I'm just saying other places would have figured a way to make it work. I mean, Hofstra is making it work and they just got it. I just don't think Wright State is run well.

Are you serious? Hofstra is a private university. Private universities generally have much more money. In fact, Hofstra has 4.5x the endowment that Wright State has. Hofstra doesn't even have to spend as much on security as Wright State would have had to because private universities can shut out the public. Public universities can't do that.

So(maybe slightly off topic), is there a "replacement" debate in another city to make up for the no-go WSU or no?

Yes, Hofstra University is hosting it. Somehow, they had no problem doing it last minute while Wright State couldn't do it with all of that time to prepare for it.
