I disagree that Trotwood would be a safe area. Salem Mall was closed in Trotwood after it was overrun with gangs and so much crime no one could go there safely any more.

Trotwood to live in would be safe, depending on the subdivision or if you live on an acre or two out on the country roads. Generally speaking the areas west of the "Trotwood Connector" highway and north of, say, Little Richmond Rd are OK..though it depends on the subdivision. Old Town Trotwood is sort of neat if you want an older pre WWII home. And there is one of those golf course communities in NW Trotwood..big houses backing up onto fairways.

There are some parts of Trotwood to really avoid, and that would be the Drexel area off of US 35. The local motorcycle gang has its clubhouse in Drexel. That area is actually somewhat seperate from the main part of Trotwood.

Salem Mall is gone. There is a big Home Depot on the site.

So there is still shopping, though its more the discount/big box/convienience type (Burlington Coat Factory, Target, Super K, etc), not mall shopping.

Another area in Trotwood thats nice is Sycamore, which is a planned community with lots of open space. It, and the old town area, are on a nice rail-trail bikepath that you can take out into adjacent Sycamore State Park and beyond into Brookville and the countryside.

Trotwood is nice if you want a lot of open space/country feel, but still fairly close-in.
