Talking Important question! How many authentic Mexican restaurants are in Dayton area?

We are anticipating a move to Dayton this summer. However, I *must* know that there is authentic Mexican cuisine in Dayton/surrounding suburbs! No Chili's, Taco Bell or fake Mexican......I mean, authentic, flies flying around the ceiling fan, waiters can barely speak English authentic. Please tell me there's at least one!

Grande Rio in Fairborn. Um... no flies on the ceiling... that I've noticed.

El Burrito Loco in Huber Heights.

Laredo at the intersection of 725 and McEwen is the best I've had. Fairly authentic, esp. the rice.

Now Jeffery, we have a problem. *Fairly* authentic? I don't know if I can go with *fairly*. It's got to be the real deal. I'm a major Mexican food addict.

Well, my partner is Mexican ancestry and learned to cook from his grandmother, who was from the Juarez area, and he thinks its pretty good, so I trust his judgement. It was close to what he makes, but not as good as home cooking, of course. I am not sure what you mean by authentic, but this is northern Mexican cooking. I know there are different styles of Mexican food.

There are a number of Mexican places around here. You can get all the usual Mexican things like burritos, tamales, etc. and also the more unusual things like menudo, pozole, carnitas, flan, empenadas, etc...

The other place you should try for South American (not necessarily Mexican) cooking is El Meson. It is run by a Columbian family. They go to South American every winter to look for new recipes and ways of cooking, and then, when they return, base their menu on their finds. This is probably one of the best restaurants in Dayton in terms of quality and taste.

This sounds excellent and what I'm looking for. I'm from Louisiana, right near the Texas/Mexican border and have cut my teeth on authentic Mexican. There is an outstanding restaurant here that I go to 2 or 3 times a month. When we move to Dayton this summer, I was panicking thinking I was going to have to give up my Mexican food. Looks like I'm going to be just fine. Thanks.

Hello friend,

Totally understand your frustration with fake Mexican restaurants; I know a lot of "authentic Mexican restaurants" in Ohio, Michigan, and Florida. If you ever go to those locations you can find great authentic Mexican restaurants at www.MexicanRestaurantFinder.com they only have original restaurants, you can check them out online before you go, print coupons, see their pictures, menus etc...
Hope this helps if you ever find yourself in those states !
Verdana
Cheers!!!

News flash, JeffreyT; Laredo's just in the last week or so was bought by El Rancho Grande! Now, we like El Rancho Grande a lot (we've eaten at their West Carrollton & Beavercreek restaurantes) but haven't tried the new place. We never went in when it was still Laredo's. Is El Rancho Grande authentic? Well, it ain't like the places I enjoyed when I was stationed in Del Rio, TX but to mi Gringo Esposa y me, El Rancho Grande' will do!

I dont think Ive ever tried El Rancho Grande.

I tried Taqueria Mixteca over on E Third again and it was better. This is probably the most authentic in town as per the thread parents criteria.
