Default Animal friendliness in Oakwood??

I am moving to the Dayton area and am considering Oakwood. I have an outdoor cat and was wondering how receptive people there are to having friendly cats meandering around the neighborhood. I read that they have the right to call the humane society to have a cat on their property picked up. Does this happen often? Also, I read that dogs are not allowed at all in any Oakwood parks--is this true/enforced? Where do people take there dogs to play? Lastly, I heard that Oakwood has some very particular rules (ie, no rollerblading) but I can't find a list of them--does anyone know what kinds of particular rules they have?

Jules78, I'm not sure where you would find the list of rules. I'm pretty sure that men can't go around without a shirt, and women can't go jogging/walking with just a jog-bra. I think you will find that Oakwood rules are enforced pretty strictly. There's a good reason why everybody is going the speed limit on Far Hills once they reach Oakwood. In terms of whether or not your cat would be picked up, that probably depends on your neighbor. I'm surprised about the rule about no dogs in the parks. I've seen a lot of people walking their dogs through Oakwood, but I guess that's been on the sidewalk. I've never lived in Oakwood. We just used to go there to go jogging or go to Dorothy Lane Market.

I live in Oakwood and both my neighbors on either side have outdoor cats who have roamed around for years and have never gotten picked up, so I don't think you have anything to worry about. As for the "rules", yes Oakwood does strongly enforce the speed limit and they will go after you if your house/yard look like crap. As for men not being allowed to go around without a shirt or women jogging in just bras... there's no such rules. I find it pretty humorous to read what people write about Oakwood on these forums. I know a lot of people here and there's no "snob mentality". The only people who say those things are those who don't live here, and they just heard that over the years living around Dayton. Oakwood is a wonderful, beautiful, and incredibly safe place to live. There's also some surprising afordable homes here. I would recommend it to anyone.

I don't know Vero. My dad was a siding contractor years ago. He had a job on a house in Oakwood on a day the temperature was in the 90s, and he was working at the top level of the house in the direct sun. The heat was so unbearable, he removed his shirt to keep from passing out from the heat. An officer pulled up, and told him he had to put his shirt back on. He explained to them about it being at least 20 degrees hotter on the ladder, but they told him he still could not work without a shirt. He just packed up and came home early.
Of course tho, that was around the same time that you could not DWB thru Oakwood or drive thru there with an older car without being stopped and asked what you were doing in Oakwood, about 20 years ago. Things have changed the last few years.
