SteeltownKid, the newly-opened Tim Horton's franchise here in Centerville/Washington Twp (OH 48 at Whipp Road)is owned by a very genial Canadian man; he told us that the waiting list in Canada for T.H. franchises is too long!
(I'm sure Dave Chappell loves AND lives in Yellow Springs)

Crew Chief, aren't we all genial?
Do they have "roll up the rim to win" at Timmy's in Ohio? I'd love to see stats on sales the couple times of year they do that promo here...HUGE spikes, I imagine!
I'll have to pass by the Centreville (oops, Canuck spelling!)/Washington Twp store some time. See ya...

Of course, ALL Canadians are genial...until they get on the 401 No, seriously, I ran Ontario and Quebec frequently when I was a long haul trucker and sure miss it. And, yup, Timmy imported "roll'em up and win" South of the border. Speaking of which, didja see the news story awhile back about the man who, I believe it was at a school but don't remeber where, threw his Timmy cup away in the trash. A girl came along, fished it out and "rolled and won" a car? Wonder what the outcome of the case was? I think I remember another young girl being with her, as well...

Surrounding small towns

Thanks Wright Flyer - I'll add here that I don't want to be IN any town proper, a few miles out of someplace with a grocery store and a decent commute to the base would be spot on.

Giesela, I'm feeling you on your search. Acreage is pricey in good areas near the base. I would suggest that you look for property based on school district if you have children. My friends' kids went to Greenon schools (Enon) and they were pretty happy with them. Your info on Springfield is correct, I would not buy there if I had children.
If you don't have kids, there is some beautiful land north of I-70 that would cost less than south of it, traveling north and east.

I don't have to worry about school districts except in terms of resale. So far everything out of "town" near some trees has had either a nice house on a slab (can't do with my back) or a real dump. I mean like a tear down dump not a oh this old beautiful farmhouse could be restored dump.
So....not going well. I've found that actually if you want privacy there isn't much to be had in the country - since most houses seem to be surrounded by cropland with maybe a windbreak. I don't think I'm going to find anything I've been looking extensively on the MLS and from looking at Google Earth I'm getting the feel its not out there. I may have to default to a small Beavercreek ranch and just suck up my deepseated dislike of the crowded suburbs.
Thanks for the post.

Don't Give Up Hope
Hey, some of the lots (esp. older brick ranches in Beavercreek) can have
1/2+ acres with mature trees. We used to live in the Woodhaven development with a 3/4 of an acre and beautiful maples and pines. I know its not the country, but there's more privacy there than the neighborhood we live in now (large homes on smallish lots with baby trees). We needed the space and larger homes on wooded lots were too expensive.

Um I'm new to the Dayton area myself. I've been in NC all my life so far and recently took a plunge and decided to move here for some moral support to a friend of mine that's having a baby in feb. I've never had the desire to move away from NC I absolutely love it there. The weather's great, its quiet and i knew alot of people. Here I have no friends but one and my husband with my two kids. Any how I'm just trying to see if anyone out there knows of any riding stables that let people volunteer. Or any public riding facitilies that do trail rides. Because that was a big part of my life in NC and I would just like to find something like that around here to fill that void. Thanks

MoniCubes, I'd look into the Montgomery County Metro Parks. That and some of the local bike trails have space for riders on the grassy shoulder. That's about all I know about horses in the area, but I know there are places out there since I know people with horses.
In other news, Mandy Moore is scheduled to perform at The Greene. While I'm not a fan, it makes me happy to see some high end performances come to the area.
