Moving to Englewood, OH
I just recently bought a house in Englewood. I've spent a lot of time there and really like it, and have lived on the edge of Englewood, in Clayton. Spent most of my life in Dayton.
My grandkids, ages 6 & 7 will be living with me starting this summer. I've heard the schools are great. But I just heard that there are some issues with racism now in the area. My grandkids are African American (I am white.) Any reactions out there? Was I misinformed or was the person overreacting? Would be interested in what to expect once I move into the house and how the grandkids will be treated.
TIA.

I would stay take it one day at a time. Ohio in general is largely Caucasian in population. Your kids should be fine. Someone is always going to dislike someone because of something. I remember my days in Princeton School district back in the 80s as a young kid. It was a rough start trying to fit in and some of the kids didn't like me. But as time went on and they saw I was not a trouble maker we all began to get along. You want to know the funny thing? I had more problems with the two young black girls in my class than another other person. Haha and Im black too. But alas that was over 24-25 years ago.
Tell your loved ones to think positive and ignore the junk. With the way kids are today It would be no easier for them had they went to Dayton Public Schools. And trust me I know this from experience.

open-mindedness
It's probably a little late for the reply, but here goes a shot.
I left Tipp city a little over 8 years ago and as I was departing there were two black famlies living in Tipp City with children in school and doing just fine.
Yes people might do a double take at first because the mix is so little, but the cross situation was extinguished I believe in the 60's. Like any "good neighborhood" good neighbors creates good neighbors.

Reply to Redentired...
Not all of Beavercreek has well water. In fact, only the rural areas have well water. We do have city water, in fact, the plant is right across the street from my house. Many people do assume that because a lot of Beavercreek homes do still have wells, that we don't have city water.
So to all who think Beavercreek's only source of water is a well, that's no longer true, as of the mid-1970's.

Whimsi,
I'd trade for well water anytime to get away from using this chemical laden mess the city here forces on me. I wish a well could be put in.

Anyone from Dayton
i do my pg course Glad to hear it.I look forward to starting nursing school, I have high hopes for my education, but I'm really starting to get disgruntled with people who like to pass on the rumors about RETS without ever actually experiencing it.If your planning on going full-time, it's a two year program, so it will take you two years. I don't know anything about your situation (married, kids, etc), but it's a tough program, so you might want to reconsider going full-time.

As you can tell from my ID, I am a UD grad and also really miss Milano's. It was a staple in my diet for four years while going to UD. However, I currently live in CA and would not move back to Dayton or any suburb. There is not much to do in Dayton and that's why the crime rate is so high. If the mayor of Dayton or city planners could bring in some things for young people to do then the crime rate would probably go down.
