I've been in Dayton for over a month now...
Well, I don't know if anyone remembers some of my older posts, but I did it! I went and moved from NY to OH. Ohio is great and I really do like it here but... It's been over a month now, and I've yet to find a job. I have been looking very aggressively, to no avail. I've applied at all the local colleges and universities, hospitals, not to mention answered practically every ad in the Sunday paper... but nothing seems to work. I've had a handful of interviews but nowhere near what I expected for myself when I first moved.
In any case, maybe someone reading this post just happens to be looking for a hard-working, dedicated, talented administrative assistant, fluent in Spanish and Portuguese, with a background in sales, extensive experience in graphic and web design, and a true desire to work. Not just for the money... if I don't get out and start doing something soon, I am going to lose my mind
So please, if anyone has any leads for me that I have yet to explore... Let me know!

Jobs in Dayton
Don't have a lead for you, But if you haven't tried it yet, look at signing on with the temp agencies in town. Particularly with your skill set. Your multi lingual abilities may be helpful in the northern communities- Huber Heights, New Carlisle, Medway, etc. Regardless of where you go, it will give you a paycheck, give you networking opportunities, and can lead to full time work. Lots of full time moms in this area do this when they want to ease back into the job market after an absence. Good Luck!

I am not sure why you chose Dayton, but this was not a wise choice for finding work. The Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland maintains economic statistics for the metro areas and countys in their district, and this metropolitan area has underperformed even Youngstown in terms of job creation.
If you are comitted to staying in Ohio I would recommend another city to live in as you might have better chance of finding work there.

Jeffery is correct. Dayton is only second to Detroit in unemployment. I'd look elsewhere. Might have to move down to Cincinnati, which is probably the best area in Ohio.

Columbus and Cincinnati have the best job markets in Ohio. Akron is doing ok too.

Thanks for the advice. I tried Manpower but felt a bit neglected. I understand the job market here is lacking but I thought they could at least keep me up to date once a week on what they are trying to do. But! I have good news. I found decent full-time work on my own about a week and a half ago, and it's been going well. It's nowhere near what I would like to be paid but it will hopefully be enough to pay the bills and get by.
I would really like to work for UD and have applied twice so far this year, with one interview that I'm waiting to hear back about. My boyfriend's dad tried for almost a year before he finally got work there, but it was worth the wait and he hasn't looked back since. So, I will keep trying too

JefferyT- I moved to Ohio to be with my boyfriend. He has a stable and promising job here in Dayton, and with the cost of living so low, it just made sense for me to be the one to relocate. If I were to pick a state to live in for the job opportunities, I would have stayed in NY with my well-paying gig and just shelled out a grand a month on rent and gone about my business. I like it here though Even though finding work was a royal pain in the ass.

Oh, OK...thanks! I can understand being with the one you love (sounds like my great granparents when they came over from Poland, one followed the other). In any case, congratulations on finding a job, and best wishes on the interviews with UD. :-) I am glad you like it here, too....it is a nice area.

Dayton and Cincinnati are quickly becoming 1 big market (with all the growth in the Springboro/Middletown/northern Cincy burbs area), so maybe you need to look at jobs down there. Besides that, I would suggest a move outta Dayton.
