Springboro traffic to Wright Patt?
Hi All,
My family will be moving from San Diego to the Dayton area in a few months. My husband will be attending AFIT at Wright Patt. We've narrowed our housing search to Beavercreek, Centerville/Wash Twnship, Bellbrook, and Springboro.
However I'm now wondering if the commute from Springboro to Wright Patt (AFIT) will be a headache. I've read that the quick growth has led to congestion.
Anyone know how bad the traffic really is? (Any commute under 35 minutes would be acceptable.)
Thanks! Mary

I would think the commute would be a headache mostly on the surface streets between Springboro and I-75/I-675. It will become better when a new exit for I-75 opens in a few years. I'd say it would take anywhere from 25-35 minutes depending on traffic and time. Maybe a little shorter?
Then there is the ice on I-675 in the winter. There always seems to accidents on there in bad weather, but that could just be from careless driving.
Good luck on your move from San Diego. While it won't always be nearly as warm here, cost of living and housing is a saving grace.

None of those cities would be a 35 commute to AFIT.... Also, they all pretty much sit on 675 (minus Springboro) which feeds into AREA B where AFIT is. Springboro would probably be the furthest commute, but those cities all pretty much sit on top of each other. You really can't go wrong with any of them. The longest commute would be no longer than 30 minutes and congestion on 675 isn't all that bad. . .there would not be any traffic jams or anything of that sort. . .just probably a lot of cars during rush hour. WrightFlyer is right, the worst part of that commute will be the surface streets to get to 675, from there it's a straight shot.

Thanks so much! We'll keep Springboro on our list of possibilities.

Definetly. This why I think a 30 minute commute would be generous, becuase you lose the time you make on the intersate due to traffic jams. The two routes into Springboro off the interstate are Yankee Street @ I-675 or OH 73 @ I-75. Heading to the OH 73 interchange means additional travel time on the interstate then a long slog into Springboro. Taking Yankee Street means traffic jams for the first mile or two as Yankee is two lane in parts, with lights, and is near a collection of office complexes. So rush hour is traffic jams from light to light before traffic opens up south of Social Row Road.
Probably more hassle free commuting to Beavercreek, Sugarcreek Township, and Bellbrook.

Mary, we are in Springboro, my husband commutes to Wright-Patt daily. From our garage to his parking lot is 25 minutes almost every day. He sometimes adds a few minutes if one particular light on Yankee St. takes two cycles to get through.
We considered the same areas you are considering. I came about six weeks before we PCSed to find a house and decided that Springboro was worth the commute. All of the areas you are looking at are nice, but we are really happy with Springboro.
Good luck with the move.

Go with Beavercreek. Closer, better shopping, and no clear difference from Springboro.

The worse part of the commute from Springboro to WPAFB is getting to the interstate. Once the new exit is in in a few years like the one person posted that will help but thats at least 18 months off maybe a full 2 years. Most of the accidents on 675 are caused by careless and uncourteous drivers. ODOT maintains the area pretty well, and the worse ramp is the south 75 to north 675 so you wouldn't use that one anyways. All the areas you are considering are good areas. Bellbrook probably has the smallest taxes out of all. Best thing to do if you can is to come out and look around a bit and see which area best suits you and your family.
Good Luck and Welcome to Ohio......

Well, let's put it this way....It used to take me 55 minutes to get to Xenia from my apartment in Fairfield (suburb of Cincinnati, west of West Chester) at the height of morning rush hour. So I imagine you could make it to Wright Patt in less than 35 minutes.
