I live in Tipp City and it's okay, but there is a clear sort of snobbery in some areas. It seems to be more based on what you do for a living, where you live, and how much you make than any racial discrimination, though. My oldest daughter graduated high school, middle child is in 5th grade, and they like the schools, other than snobs which you can find anywhere.

However, our youngest child is adopted, and is of Latino heritage. I've been thinking about sending him somewhere that is more ethnically diverse, because it will probably be difficult to be the only child of color in a grade. I would say 99% of Tipp City school kids are Caucasian, although the 5th grade does have one African American child and sometimes there are sons and daughters of migrant farm workers that attend school also. Yellow Springs and Beavercreek both seem good. I get very strange looks and stares when I am in Centerville with my son.

This is just my experience, of course. Good luck!

Is your husband military? If so, have you considered living in base housing? They have some nice places, I have lived on base myself. Especially the officer's housing... very nice. And there is a LOT of diversity on base, I worked at a daycare there and never saw any open racism at ALL. Many hispanic, black, asian mixed families (admitedly more were white but like i said, it was a very accepting area). I agree with one poster that Yellow Springs is fairly close and is VERY VERY liberal. Did i say VERY? lol

If you live on base, I think the kids go to Fairborn schools.

If you live in the housing on Area's A&C, then all children go to the Fairborn School District. If you live just outside Area B (Prarie and Woodlands neighborhoods off Col. Glenn), then all children attend the Mad River School District. Personally, I find Mad River to be a better school district than Fairborn. Both still are not up to par with schools like Beavercreek and Tipp City however. Fairborn, however, is probably the most diverse school district of the four.

Base Housing is not an option for us, because we have 3 big dogs. :-)

We are now really looking in Beavercreek and Yellow Springs!! Because we like the BC school rating... I search for houses by school district now.
Thank you and happy mothers day!!!

What about Huber Heights, Riverside, Wilberforce or Xenia? Also, Yellow Springs was a major Underground Railroad community. Hence, it's reputation and history for being very "liberal". It also has Antioch College and is right next to Wilberforce, which is a predominately Black college town with 2 Historically Black colleges.

My family is from Centerville, and when I was there, it was mostly white. I wouldn't consider it to be a racist community, and I never experienced any open racism there, but I'm white. However, two of my best friends growing up were not white, and I don't recall any issues. I think the area has gotten more diverse, and I would give it a good look - the schools are great. It's a great community.

I am a military brat and grew up living in Germany! My dad retired and we moved to Ohio to be close to the Base and family. I think that if you choose to live near Beavercreek, where more military families live, you will feel more "at home" We moved to Springboro when I was in 8th grade. The town at the time and still is, is not used to diversity. Growing up in the military I was around all different types of people and I think if your daughter is around other military children, they tend to be more accepting!

I am a biracial college student that has grown up in the dayton area. Beavercreek is not a good idea, though they do have good schools and it would be a short commute it is just not that open and accepting. I would definitely vote for yellow springs. They have a really great community that is open, accepting, friendly, and very pretty. Most of the time there is no open racism anywhere in the dayton and surrounding areas...there have been instances that I know of personally, but in Yellow Springs and on the base you will find none of that.
