I have really been enjoying seeing the various photos and websites of the historic districts and renovations there. Impressive stuff and I look forward to seeing some of these buildings in real life!

We're hoping to land in Yellow Springs this summer from Europe and have spent hours researching online. For Yellow Springs rentals: check out the online weekly newspaper, Yellow Springs News Online
and Dunphy Realty, who have an RSS feed.
Rick & Chris Kristensen realtors also very helpful: Rick and Chris Kristensen - RE/MAX Resources
Good luck!

I expect it will be quite enjoyable. I'll stay with a colleague and we'll roam around a bit looking at neighborhoods.
With luck I'll find a rental on the trip... but as I can't move until August (or possibly late July), I might have to put off choosing a place until July. I suppose it depends on how tight the market is in the appropriate areas. It would be great if I could find something now and have it lined up but not have to pay rent until I'm actually ready to move.

To update, I spent last weekend looking around. I was staying in Kettering with a colleague, so we looked at some apartments and houses in Oakwood on our way north. What I saw in Kettering and Oakwood was mostly very attractive, and I could have rented a nice 2-bedroom apartment then and there, but after nearly a decade of apartment life, I've been wanting a yard, and since housing is pretty affordable, I wanted to see the historic districts.
We got to St. Anne rather late in the afternoon, just after an interesting-looking rent-to-own house had ended its open house. I tried calling them, but after a week they still haven't returned my calls. Another interesting-looking rental waited a couple of days to return my call and say that it was already rented. I was able to look at two rentals, both of which struck me as overpriced given the amount of maintenance and repair they appeared to need. (As in, I could rent a nice, well-maintained apartment for about the same amount.)
I also looked at a lovely house in South Park that tgasper had suggested I see, and would have rented it but the owner said no on my pets. As I had meetings at school most of Monday and couldn't stay to Tuesday, that was that. I'll keep checking online and will be coming back through in mid-July, when I've got to rent something whether I love it or not. My lease is up July 31 and it now sounds like I have no leeway on leaving later.

calypsospots - I'll keep looking for you in South Park. Would have loved to see you land at that particular house. I own the ones on either side and there is a really cool couple moving into the blue one at the end of the month. I'm still working on finding someone who needs a very large 2500 sq ft one (the orange one on the other side).

I'm taking advantage of the thread's title to ask if anyone knows of a good place to live on a temporary basis (up to six months) before we dismantle our home and move to Dayton. Maybe a furnished place for rental.
We spent few days in northern Cincinnati, Dayton, Vandalia and West of Columbus. We would be interested in Beavercreek, Kettering, Tripp City, Oakwood and alikes. However we want to get a better feeling of the city and sourroundings before deciding on a longer term plan for housing.
Thanks in advance for any input.

Trabuco72 - it seems to me that both Mallard Landing and The Enclave in Beavercreek have furnished apartments for extended stay scenarios. You might want to check them out. Other options might be to find a place you'd like to rent, then call CORT Furniture, they normally have residential furniture packages that include a living room, dining room and master bedroom package. At least they did 10 years ago!
