Since I couldn't visit in person, I had a colleague take a look and she was very enthusiastic both in general and in terms of my specific interests.

I'm looking forward to being done with the moving (packing is so vile! my living room has been taken over by boxes!) and enjoying my new home. Many thanks to everyone who has offered thoughts and suggestions.

Where are you moving to Dayton from?

And I might add that panhandlers don't alarm me at all.

^ good, we need more sensible people that aren't scared by everyday-panhandlers. Hell, we have nicknames for almost all of our panhandlers in Dayton. And other than a very few aggressive ones (there is a man/woman couple you have to look out for), most are completely harmless.

You'll love the Oregon District. And once you're settled in, come up to the South Park Tavern on Wayne & Oak some Friday night. 18 microbrews on tap, good wine and great pizza!

I can't imagine any of the Dayton panhandlers are more aggressive than those I've met in San Francisco and Berkeley.

And yes, I'm looking forward to checking out the South Park Tavern!

Default Move to a small town outside of Dayton

There are lots of interesting small towns around Dayton. Depending on where you will working will guide you to which side of Dayton you will be living. I was working in Vandalia and found numerous small towns north of Troy area. Just pull up a google map and have a look. Check out Small town polls, forums, business reviews and classifieds for those one zipcode small towns or Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitor sites is not allowedfor more info those towns.

Default Trotwood is NOT nice. NOT nice. Not nice.

Wow. Are you joking me? ARE YOU JOKING ME?

The only thing true is the school and that is simply because the district performed so horribly that the state came in built a new one.
You are such a liar.
