High School Soccer?
Hi all,
New to this forum but have been reading a few posts for some time now (finally decided to join!!)
DH will be retiring from the military in a few months and we are looking to make the Wright Patt area our home (DH has been offered a position at WP)
We have been to the area several times and have narrowed our search down to a few places (Beavercreek, Bellbrook, Springboro, Miamisburg)
We have a DD who is going to be a high school freshman when we move there. We are looking for a good school for her that will welcome new kids and has a decent high school soccer program. I know this is going to sound strange but we do not want her to attend the high school with the best soccer program where all the girls are looking for a college scholarship. My DD is a really good soccer player but I know she is not the best and I am concerned that with a school enrollment of over 2000 that her chances of making a team would be slim. We just want her to have a chance to play in high school and I know she would really enjoy it and thrive in that environment. We want her to be able to contribute to a team and have a great experience. I guess what I was wondering is if anyone out there knows how the high school girls soccer teams rank and which schools have good but maybe not the dominate soccer teams where you have to me Mia Hamm to make the team.
I don't want it to seem that we are only interested in soccer for school choices but I know that the areas I mentioned above also have great academics -so the soccer thing is just a big plus.
Thanks for your help - And sorry for the long post!!

Try Bethel Twp/Parktowne subdivision. Behtel has quite a stellar soccer program in a small, laid back atmosphere (high school total enrollment is roughly 350).

Out of those schools, I'd probably say your best bet is either Springboro or Miamisburg. The best 'large school' girls soccer teams are going to be Centerville and Beavercreek. . .both are consistently performing deep into the state tournament, if not playing for the State Championship. Bellbrook for a 'smaller' school has a very competitive team and I think went undefeated in their league last year.
Both Miamisburg and Springboro had very good seasons; they're not the best, but also not the worst either and I think your daughter would probably fit in nicely in either program. You might also look at Oakwood as well, if you're looking for a smaller school with a good girl's soccer team. They came in 3rd last year in their league, behind first place Bellbrook.

I'm proud of Centerville (I live in their district) but prfcttimeofday's advice is right on the money. Welcome to "Life After the USAF"! (I'm retired although I never was stationed at WPAFB)

Thanks so much for the advice. I know Ohio has great soccer and just want my daughter to be able to possibly have a shot at making a team. We are in Hawaii now and while they have good soccer programs here it is not nearly as competitive as Ohio soccer as a whole so she is not quite used to that level of play. Thanks again

You can't go wrong with Beavercreek. An awesome school system, one of the best rated in Ohio! Beavercreek was also recently voted into the nation's top "100 best places to live" list.
Check out their soccer program!
Best of luck to you and your family in your move!

You might want to look into Stebbins in Riverside/Mad River. Sounds like you might be military? A lot of military live in Forest Ridge, which feeds to Stebbins. They have a really good soccer team, but it is still considered fairly small. Chances of a soccer scholarship from there looks good.

What is that area like to live in though? We are open to other areas to live in then the ones I mentioned above (Bellbrook, Beavercreek, Springboro, Miamisburg).
The soccer program is important to us but the level of education is our top priority. Also want to make sure the area is safe. I am very aware of Beavercreek and Bellbrook as we had been stationed at WP before and loved those areas but again I am concerned that those schools might be too big with such a competitive soccer program that my DD may not even stand a chance (even though she is a pretty good soccer player just not up to "top in the state" level)
Budget for a home is about 250,000 - safe area- and would also like some diversity and a school that is welcoming to new students (been at schools that do not like a new girl coming in to their territory-especially on the soccer field)
Any other areas I should look at? Maybe Yellow Springs?
Thanks again for the help

^again, try Bethel. Only about 80 kids per grade, most have parents that work at WPAFB. Soccer teams ALWAYS win conference and generally move on to great things from there, and that price range is standard for that area. Also try Kenton Ridge.

I'd think $250,000 would get you a decent home in ANY district around WPAFB! Our subdivision (Washington Twp) has quality homes built in the late '70s and most of them go for less than $200K.
