Question History of Dayton

I have read the posting on the History of Dayton and enjoyed it very much. I am into genealogy and researching my Ward-Evans roots. One of them worked in a cigar factory. Could someone tell me all about the factory and where it was?

The cigar factory? There was more than one. Tobacco was a big industry here from the post Civil War era into the 1920s. Most of the labor was by woman and chidren.

As far as Im able to tell there is one tobacco warehouse left (todays Canal Street Tavern), maybe two cigar-rolling places still standing (the Southern Belle and a building on east 5th), and one cigar box factory building (on Xenia Avenue) left in town.
