Relocating to Dayton - recommendations for Banks or S&L or CU's?
I will be relocating to the Dayton area, specifically the east side.
I am wondering what the banking situation is. Here there is a regional bank I really like but obviously since they are regional I will switch. Previously in Michigan Fifth Third bought out my regional bank there and I didn't really like them, not sure why. My mortgage is with Wells Fargo and I had some other accounts with them I didnt use much but hated all the mail and thought their process'es very busy and complicated.
If you love either of these two fine but I'd like to hear of other options.
Free banking with some minimum amount, free on-line banking with some minimum amount, relatively convenient branches and good customer service is mainly what I'm looking for.
Thanks,
Giesela

Giesela, We (my Frau und Ich) have been credit union members since forever ago. Wouldn't have it any other way. We have had excellent service from Wright-Patt Credit Union, but there are others in the Greater Dayton area. (W-PFCU is a full-service credit union and offers just about any service that a bank would offer. With FAR better rates, lower fees, and, in our experience, better service than banks, too!) We live in Washington Township and aren't sure about Credit Unions closer to East Dayton. Maybe someone can help you out a little better. Best of luck in your relocation!

Are you or your Fraulein Deutsch?
Is there a good German club in Dayton?

Hello Giesela! I'm an American who met a wonderful German woman from the Mosel when I was stationed at Sembach AB. We later spent 8 years at Bitburg (Sure was sorry to see the Main Side close...)
As for Wright-Patt Credit Union, yes they have on-line banking as well as every other banking service I can think of. They're really a full-service credit union. As for their website, try: http//. www.wright-pattcu.coop/
Yes, there are a couple of German clubs in the Dayton area. Unfortunately, we're so busy with other things, we've never had time to check them out. There's an Oktoberfest in Carillon Park every year that is VERY nice as well as an annual International Festival where clubs from many different nations set up booths for food, drink and other cultural samplings; also well worth checking out. We've been here since 2000 and really love the area! Wilkommen!
We live in Centerville/Washington Twp. and WPFCU just opened a brand new office with drive-thru tellers and an ATM accesible from your car near our home. C/WT is an easy drive down I-675 from WPAFB.

Thanks
Crew Chief - this is one relocation item I can cross off my list.
Still things like house, Dr., Dentist, Auto Repair place, beautician, etc. to go.
But the bank thing is important to have up front so I can set up an account to transfer to on a house hunting trip.
Thanks again!
P.S. My parents are Black Sea Germans that come over here in 1953.

Hi Giesela, sorry...forgot about this thread 'til I had some extra time to surf! Since we live in Washington Twp/ Centerville, we have some really good doctor/dentist/auto repair recommendations.
Doctor: Ours is Dr. Luna at PriMed Physicians and we like him and his associates a lot.
Dentist: Dr. Di Pasquale; very good.
Auto repair: We have ALL our maintenance done at Centerville Service Center and they are excellent mechanics who charge reasonable prices and have alwys been honest with us!
Do you speak German? I speak only enough to be dangerous...
