Are there any areas like maybe North Beavercreek that would be close to Wright St. so her drive is easier but would also allow a fairly easy commute to UD? I'm not really familiar with Dayton's traffic or any aspect of the city for that matter. And correct me if I'm wrong but is Wright St. next to WPAFB?
you can pretty much live anywhere within the metro and not worry about the traffic. . .if you decide to live in beavercreek, centerville, miamisburg, kettering, dayton. . neither one of you would have to drive more than 20 minutes to get to your respective campuses. You should probably zero in on places in beavercreek. start looking around the fairfield commons/mall area. She'd literally be 5 minutes from campus and you'd be about 15 from UD. . that area has easy access to 675 to 35 for you.. . which is the way you'd go to school.

Yes WSU and WPAFB sit right next to each other..

Man, dayton_ohio and prfctimeofday - yall are nuts if you think you can live in some part of town and think crime wont happen to you. That might be one of the silliest things ive heard. I think yall are mad cause you tried to sell Oakwood as having no crime and got caught lying. But yall can go ahead and try and isolate your self in some uppercrust part of town and think you are separate from the rest. You still part of Dayton no matter how much you think you not. Yall sound like fangurlz to me.

Where exactly did I ever say anything that you are implying?

After reading this post over twice, I still don't get it. What are you attempting to say???

First of all, even if you live in perfect-land, crime will still happen. As long as people or animals live there, crime will occur. Therefore, your point is moot.

Second, it's hard to find a community safer than Oakwood. Its police force is among the best and most attentive in the area, its crime rate is low, and its population is well-to-do and little poverty or reasons to steal exist. Admittedly, the city of Dayton dies have problems, but there are many districts in the city that have similar crime stats as Oakwood, and many areas taht are better than other surrounding suburbs or townships.

Third, one part of your post that is entirely correct is your second-to-last sentence. That is entirely true, and many suburbanites like to bury their heads in the sand and think that the core city does not affect them. This cannot be further from the truth, and I am glad this realization is starting to spread.

Fourth, we are not "fangurlz". We all just have a healthy interest in our community and want to make it thrive and be enjoyable for all. I do my part here and on other forums by showcasing the assets of our city to everyone, and help people see what a great place Dayton really is.

I'm not as familiar as most of these people with U of D etc. but I live near WPAFB and Wright State in one of the many apt complexes (a decent 2 bedroom for around 750). Fairly nice typical encapsulated area with all the basic amenities at Fairfield Mall and vicinity (Meijers for groceries, restaurants etc) but its not....a neighborhood or community in any sense of the word (at least not to me). A small house in Oakwood or Kettering near U of D would give you more of that. Sounds like you have a decision to make - you commute to school and sort of be "out of it" as a commuter (not as available for study groups, law journal, etc.) and both of you have to commute to in town for events but easier on her daily classes commute or vice versa. Since its "easier" to be an undergrad than law student and it sounds like she will depend more on you for friends and social life I might go with something near UofD and she will have to learn the commute. However..the other side of that coin..
I moved here 2 years ago and while Dayton may have all the things to offer most cities its size, I hate driving here and tend not to drive anywhere near downtown. I'm not worried about crime. But I-75 is the worst, someone dies on it every month, and because of the rivers and railroads and highways - well just make sure your girlfriend has a really good GPS unit and knows how to use it.

STOP ARGUING I USED TO GET ******#D OUT FOR DOING THE SAME THING!!!

If you want an easy commute I wouldn't suggest Centerville. Oakwood, fine. Beavercreek, too far. Kettering, possibly. Living in and around UD is actually pretty nice. You can find plenty of interesting places. I kow they are building 14 new lighthouse townhomes in the Rubicon District near UD. Now, those are for sale but it suggests that the area is still growing...and will in the future. SO its probably your best bet. Oakwood is really expensive unless you can get lucky so try but don't expect anything cheap or even middle of the way. Good luck!
