Last year's campaign involved citizens, law enforcement[COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important][COLOR=blue ! important][/color][/color][/color] agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations, and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 U.S. states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. In all, over 36 million people participated.

National Night Out is a community-police awareness-raising event held the first Tuesday of August. (Texas has the option to use an alternate date in October to escape hot weather - but I think they just wanted to be different )

It's when everyone turns their porch lights on, I think.

your kidding, right? We do this every year at my house. About half the neighborhood comes over and we sit out and eat, drink and just visit, eventually around a camp fire. It's about the only time of year I get to see some of my neighbors.

And it IS hot here in august...
