No rain in my immediate area, Ketabcha. Glad for you, but my reaction is the same as when my older daughter, who's living in Idaho, calls me to say that the temperature up there is in the high 50s when it's 103 here.

WE got pounded last night!! Rain Gage says around 3 inches or so. Had one big BOOM and the power went out! Of course I'm holding Baxter and almost threw him against the wall. Scared the pee outa both of us.

I should know by now not to sir in a electric recliner by now...ep, it was reclined when the power went out. It's hard as heck to climb out of one of those things in the dark!!

Flamingo, your post to Camper made me spit out my coffee. Thanks for the laugh!

And, Camper, sorry for your lights-out experience, although I'd take it for the chance to have some rain.

YAY! Finally, rain at my house! It's a nice gentle rain and no thunder to scare Lulu. Rain is predicted for the next four days and I hope the forecast is correct.

So many times lately there have been thunderstorms all around me but my immediate area has been dry. Those are the worst, as poor Lulu gets so traumatized by the thunder and we dont even get any rain to show for it. I'm very fortunate that my veterinarian is willing to sell me 50 Xanax (an anti-anxiety medication) at a time to give Lulu, as it's the only thing that keeps her from going totally nutso during a storm.

Last week I had a doctor appointment. Knowing that a storm was predicted, I gave Lulu her Xanax before I left the house. Obviously, Lulu needs both Xanax and my presence to keep her relaxed during storms. When I got home I saw that, again, my area had not gotten any rain at all -- but the thunder was all around and poor Lulu was terribly traumatized. Here's a photo of what she did trying to get out of the house. Very remarkable for a dog who was sedated and who also has no front teeth:

Poor Lulu. I can just imagine the terror she feels with the thunder.

We had a German Shepard that was terrorized by thunder. Dad always brought him inside when thunder started. The dog, Clyde, would leap into Dad's lap just as he had when he was a puppy. He was too big for a lap and the result was quite funny.

Those are fond memories.

Ketabcha, I've had dogs for 45+ years and only my older adoptees have had this terrible fear. But I've never had a dog as thunderphobic as Lulu. She actually trembles/shivers so badly that you'd think she's having a seizure. For some reason, she always tries to get into the garage and the doorway that she ruined is the one from the kitchen into the garage.

Medicating her timely can be very frustrating because it needs to be done about an hour before the thunder starts and that's hard to do. There have been so many times that a storm was predicted so I gave her the medication and then the storm/thunder never materialized. And there have been just as many times that I didnt medicate her because no storm was predicted and, wham, up popped a sudden storm that passes just as the Xanax is taking effect.
