Question starting a business in delaware

Hi everyone,I currently live in NJ and I am looking to move out of the highest tax state.I am a contractor here and have to be licensed and insured . Does Delaware require home improvement contractors to be licensed and have liability insurance. Also what might the process be to register a business in this state.

Thank You

Delaware requires all that and permits to work in towns and registration. New Castle county has its registration. You pay all the unemployment insurance on people who work for you, they do not contribute a dime. With all the building going on might be lucrative to look into it.

I don't think the state requires liability insurance or any special contractors license. If they do, it can't be enforced. I know plenty of contractors who don't have either. A business license can be had by giving the dept of revenue $75.

This is a quote from the book Delaware Laws and Programs Affecting Business by Richards, Layton, and Finger.

IV. BUSINESS LICENSES

In order to engage in most categories of business or occupation in Delaware, a Delaware business license must be procured. The annual fees for these licenses vary, depending on the business or occupation and the number of branch offices. In addition, there is normally an additional license fee based on taxable gross receipts or rental payments that varies in rate and amount of allowable exclusions depending on the particular business or occupation. (See Chapter Four, "Delaware Taxation---Gross Receipts Taxes.")

They have this url on the back of the book. www.rlf.com Perhaps you will find more info there.

Many large companies do choose to *incorporate* in DE. Disney is a well-know example. They do not conduct business directly from Delaware. Incorporating in DE is less expensive, and the legal system is supportive.
