You know, with regard to any contention that crime is swept under the carpet in DE, I just don't see that being the case. The News-Journal reports numerous crimes, crime stories, and persons arrested for various alleged offenses, usually with their photos. This stuff appears in the paper on almost a daily basis. Crime gets much less attention on the airwaves because the tv stations are largely out of Philly and report relatively little DE crime, mostly an occasional story from northern New Castle Co., unless it's the occasional sensational crime like the Bradley serial sexual abuse. The state and City of Wilmington seem to have attempted some initiatives to address crime; whether they are doing a competent job with the resources at their disposal is another question and one to which I don't pretend to have an answer.

Thats True...

Action News still puts up the links for most of the people getting shot in Wilmington.

Here are some from yesterday and last week...

Is your sole raison d'etre to call attention to every crime that happens in Delaware? What exactly is this axe you're grinding? Pray, do tell.

i just relocated to delaware from connecticut and i dont think the crime is half as bad as people make it out to be simply because your not used to it happening - coming from connecticut i find it a relief - the city of new haven which has yale university in the center of town is as bad as the wild west was - i believe it was rated in the top 5 of most dangerous cities to live - they have shootings in broad daylight - i am curious if when they give this crime information do they take into consideration the population -

While Wilmington may not be as bad as some people say, Wilmingtons crime is bad, it ranks 2nd or 3rd for most dangerous cities under 100,000 people. Plus I get the Philly news here, so anyone living in northern Delaware is used to hearing about murders and crime.

People in Delaware are without a doubt in absolute denial of this...

Just cause I live in the Pike Creek / Hockessin area does not give me the right to be ignorant and insensitive.

It's a shame other's around this area dont feel the same way...

Most Dangerous States in America - Violent Crime Rates
Of course Jersey has more crime it has alot more people, Delaware has a much higher crime rate though. Above are the stats from 2009 but the stats from 2010 aren't much better. I don't think statewide its a huge problem, but it is ridiculous to be ranked so high. States out west with a similar population size have much less crime. You can't kill your neighbor when he/she is a mile away. Look at New Hampshire, small state with way more people than Delaware but they are crime free compared to us.
Wilmington being on the 95 corridor, hurts it when it comes to crime and drugs. Its not unusual for Baltimore and Philly gangs in Wilmington shooting each other, plus the gangs from Baltimore use rt301 as a back door.

We've had two cops killed in the line of duty the past few years and that is unusual for a state this small
