I wonder if that goes on the Wilmington murder chart or someone elses.

I find it disturbing that he ran her over in a Hummer (Suv).

This is an absolutely awful murder (not to say that all murders aren't pretty awful), but it isn't in the more typical mode of urban criminality -- rather, it seems to have been a very idiosyncratic act. More typical was the arrest of a 16 year old perpetrator of a street shooting homicide in Dover, found in today's News-Journal, Delaware section.

Just proves that crime knows no boundaries....either a troublesome area, or upscale community.

So many on here ask what areas are the safest in Delaware; I conclude that there are no crime-free areas. Just be aware of your surroundings.

I agree with you, the 16 year old who shot the guy on "New Street" is more typical.

My friends from college that live downstate say that New Street in Dover needs Habitat for Humanity.

I dont agree at all, The "Purple Heart" military guy did a random act of violence in a neighborhood that almost never has crime.

No Motive, No Robbery, No Rape just PTSD...

You just can't compare that to kids shooting each other over drug deals in the ghetto.

I'm just glad it isn't summer and I was out cutting grass, I had no idea that happened in my backyard, which most will say is a safe area. The shooting in Dover by a 16 year old at 11:30am on a school day. Why wasn't he in school should be the question? Where are his parents?

Rhode Island has just as much poverty as we do, how come Delaware has so many more murders. Can anyone answer this, I can't. A state this small shouldn't have two police officers murdered in three years. Look at the home invasion stories going on around the state. rdlr is right, there isn't really a safe place in Delaware, you always have to be aware. Criminals in Delaware have become brazen and lack respect for authority more so than any other state I believe. You dont get to have the third highest crime rate in the nation for nothing.

Dover has Habitat for Humanity (Central Delaware). We worked on a home on New Street a few years ago. Also, there's House of Pride, which exists either on Queen or New Street. Marion Harris is knocking herself out trying to help turn things around.

Is New street really that bad?

I only have been down that street once and it was when I came by Wesley years ago...

Why does that street get a bad name?

Even the state police are concerned about this.
