The heat is going to be my biggest "dislike" about southwest Florida. I can barely tolerate three months of hot, muggy weather here. I don't even want to think about five to six months of it.

Luckily, schools won't be an issue for us. My son will have graduated and I won't be teaching down there. We were dead set on Cape Coral, but now we're looking at Port Charlotte as well. Oh, and Key West...we have seriously considered moving there. Yes, it is cooler down there. Did you know they had only one murder there in the past ten years? The guy working the front desk at Key Lime Inn told me this. All I can say is wow.....

Key West!! Don't even think about it young lady, not before me anyway. That's not fair at all!!! Your the type that would send me pictures of funny colored drinks with umbrellas in them, laughing too. Breathing fresh air and, your man catching fish everyday. Listening to live music when ever you want. There is a bar with bras hanging all over the place, its disgusting, lol. I told my wife that I would have to go ahead of time maybe even a month to make sure all that stuff stopped. As a matter of fact, me and your husband should go a month ahead of time just to make sure everythings ok and safe for you Delaware girls. Heck I'll get a hold of rdlr and get her husband to go as well. All you Delaware natives out of state, it would probably snow in Key West.

Hmmm ... Key West? I don't think I could ever find it attractive. Every single parcel of land is fully developed, and it is CROWDED. Top it off with there being no public beach, except for one, which was filthy and smelly when I visited about 10 years ago.

And then, considering that it's an island connected by a single bridge, to other islands in the chain ... it takes even longer to get onto mainland than it does for Long Islanders.

To each his/her own, but I just don't think I, personally, could live in such a place.

Hope you find it nicer there than I did.

Hi rdlr. Sorry for the earlier OT post. I need to say that I am not swayed at all by these recent accounts, and continue to plan my move to (and hopefully enthrallment with), Delaware, once my wife and I arrive next year.

These reports are sorrowful incidents, but they happen everywhere. I am sure if I opened up a Criminal Complaint Report for my current township, North Brunswick, NJ, it would also contain some horror stories. Especially in THIS economy.

For me, I can't wait to start the next chapter in my life. These reports are not going to "kill" it for me.

pvs - I agree with you 100% !
My post was tongue in cheek. Greenwood is a sleepy little town where nothing ever happens. This is big news, and an isolated incident.

There was also the murder-suicide in Woodbridge earlier this month . Local man shot his wife and them killed himself.

But, as stated before, I feel very safe in Ocean View--safer than anyplace I've ever lived with maybe the exception of Brandywine Hundred (north Wilmington), but I was only a child when I lived there. For such a populated area, violent crime is basically unheard of in Ocean View...even during the summer.

The Laurel man who killed the Greenwood woman was CRAZY, and I mean CRAZY. He was actually prohibited from owning a gun due to his extreme mental illness, but he bought one at a truck stop. Very tragic.

Yeah, crazies are everywhere.

I feel extremely safe where I am, too, which is in the Camden-Wyoming area. We border Dover, which has some gang activity, along with almost everyplace else in the state. Still, we're very comfortable and happy here in these little towns. We have a bicycle theft now and then, but that's about it.
