My husband frequently makes the drive from Middletown, De to Cherry Hill, NJ for work and says it takes him about 1 hr and 20 min depending on traffic and time of day.

He travels to 90 locations in 6 states so traveling to CH is a"mild" commute...lol. Are you getting a job in NJ or are you moving to DE?

Moving to de from philly. My wife works in NJ now. If we have to move further north in de to lessin the commute like bear or newark we might. Its hard to drive over an hour to work everyday so an hour is kinda like the cut off. Thanks again for your help.

It is not known how much gasoline budget the OP has but many philly residents who moved down to Middletown in the last decade ( contd. to work in north philly for example) - ended up in foreclosures in part because the gas price over last five to eight years has gone up by 60% or more (not to mention occasional spikes upto $4.00/ gallon) ... gasoline prices are only going to go up....

Middletown mortgage pmt may be smaller but the difference in additional gas consumption sometimes more than wipes out that advantage ...something to think about!!

I have aquaintances who commute daily from Wilmington to Philly. They seem not to be bothered, but I hate I-95, especially the parts around Chester that have no shoulders. I don't see how they can stand it, frankly. I suppose the commute from northern New Castle County to South Jersey may be a bit less grueling and one could buy all their fuel in Jersey, where is is cheaper. However without a doubt the federal tax on petrol is going to be rising, possibly very steeply, so that is going to make the cost terrible unless you perhaps drive some hybrid or a tiny econo-car.

I wouldn't commute to Cherry Hill from below the canal... just my two cents. I would look closer to the DMB.
