I offer no opinion, pro or con, of the idea one way or another especially as "not yet a Delawarian", but just a question. We have over the past several years cut funding to our National parks system, the infrastructure is falling apart and many are running at deficits, nationwide.

Good idea or not, how does this happen, when we are currently unable to support our current parks?

I think the issue is not simply either/or, as in: Do we add a park or not? I say "Yes" and we look at the federal budget. I'd prefer more funding for parks than for weapons systems even the Pentagon says it doesn't want. Delaware has some fantastic history that should be highlighted. Such a park could drive tourism and be a job creator - perhaps the most significant benefit.

Are guns allowed in all DE state parks? If not, this might be something to think about before toying with the idea of turning state parks into national parks. There's a lot to be said for state control over issues like this.

As I recall the legislation to create a national park in DE was designed to create zero budgetary impact, although I don't know how that is supposed to work. The proposed park of course would link up several different historic sites in DE, as discussed above, and would not be a traditional park as most people conceive of that. I'm in favor of the idea but I do think it is a departure from the original idea of national parks as preserving the nation's natural crown jewels. Still it isn't the first such departure.

Another example of a National Park that is a departure from the original idea is Wolftrap here in northern VA, which is an outdoor concert area.
