I'm heading to Lewes for the weekend with my father, are there any events going on at the shore this weekend?

Hi! I believe most of the parades and holidays events are over; however, many restaurants are having special Christmas and New Years dinners and celebrations. I'm headed out tonight for some drinks and appetizers with my husband, nothing fancy.

North Ocean City is only about a 45 minute drive from Lewes, and they have the Winterfest of Lights. You get to ride a tram around Northside Park and see a spectacular display of Christmas lights and decorations. It's worth the trip and many people come from all over to see this display. Many local restaurants are having Christmas Eve dinners tonight as well. I know Harpoon Hanna's in Fenwick (right by the MD line) is having a Christmas Eve party tonight. Hope this helps....

Thanks Liz,
I did not see your reply until today but I got into Lewes on 12/24 kinda late after driving through neighborhoods in Northern Wilmington and Christiana (Wilton). Then on 12/25 we went to church and then took a drive up to Dover Amish Country (I didn't know about the Amish community until I read this forum!). It was a nice way to spend the day. I'll have to remember the Winterfest of Lights for next year!

Now any ideas for New Years eve in Lewes?

Hmmm...quite a few places will be open for very nice NYE dinners in the Lewes and Rehoboth area such as The Buttery right in Lewes and Big Fish in Rehoboth. We're actually headed to Ocean City, MD for a nice dinner, but I always heard the dinner and NYE party at the Rudder is a real hoot. Tickets may already be sold out though.

My husband and I had NYE dinner and stayed for the party at the Fat Tuna in Millville a few years ago and we really enjoyed ourselves, but that's a good 15 miles or so from Lewes.

Friday Night Live at Harrington Casino has been a really fun, Friday night gathering place for quite awhile now. The acts they bring in are varied, but at least once/month they have an oldies show. Last night, it was The Diamonds (with some replacements ). It was a fantastic show, and it was a lot of fun doing The Stroll with those from the now defunct Harrington and Felton High Schools, and Greenwood, Dover & Smyrna High Schools. Proudly, alumni sported their low-numbered FHS and HHS license plates in the parking lot. Back then, we only had 30-40 people in our graduating classes, so it's easy to get a low numbered tag. There was even a 57' Ford, and 56' Chevy on display out in the parking lot! A good many of us danced on Philly's American Bandstand, with Dick Clark, back in the 50's. How we got the nerve to drive ALL THE WAY to Philadelphia, is unknown! That, to us, was a major cross country trip.

For dinner last night, a large group of us started the evening at Cool Springs Fish Bar & Restaurant at Rising Sun. If you've never been, you might want to give it a whirl. We started out with Fish Bait appetizers, a selection of bite size chunks of deep fried fish, with dipping sauce. For the main course, we had sword fish, and rock fish, with assorted veggies. Both were delicious!

I'll tell you what, these locals know how to have fun! This rural Kent/Sussex County area grew some work-hard, play-hard, tough individuals!
Now, back to The Diamonds.....

Default St. Patrick's Day

Lots of happiness and excitement around Kent County this weekend, and next......If you're down in the dumps, here's a sure way to pick yourself up!

Smyrna's St. Patrick's Day Celebration/Parade is Sunday, March 11th. They really do it up big with a block party, and now, Smyrna has two Irish Pubs now. We try to go every year to this event. Read about it in the attached link.

Luckily, those celebrating the Irish can catch both Smyrna's and Dover's celebrations this year. Dover's is next Saturday, March 17th. Thanks to the Irish Society for all the hard work. Parade time is 2 p.m.

Here's an information link from the Smyrna/Clayton Sun Times.....dates, times, and other:
St. Patty's celebrations all week in Smyrna - Smyrna, DE - Smyrna/Clayton Sun-Times

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!

Oh, St. Patty's Day events are so much fun! The Rudder opens back up on March 16 and we'll be headed there sometime next weekend, I hope. We are definitely going to the Ocean City St. Patty's Day parade on March 17, which is HUGE. I already bought a funky felt hat, some blinking necklaces, and other accessories to wear during the Ocean City parade. Can't wait!

Sounds great, Liz! I found my bag of St. Patty's Day accessories. They're cheesie, but fun! The batteries died in my shamrock pins...gotta buy more! I love these celebrations, too....one big happy crowd! We're looking forward to the Rudder's opening, too!

March is such a happy month! St. Patrick's Day seems to be the first SPRING holiday in Delaware, and everybody wants to get out and have fun!

I just saw where Milton's celebration is March 11th with the parade starting at 2 p.m. in downtown Milton. Irish Eyes, naturally, will be the party place.

Still plenty of time to celebrate St. Patty's Day, Liz! I'm going to Smyrna's tomorrow....should be nice weather! I really need some un-wind time! No green beer for me, though!
