We paddled away from the launch at Holts Landing around 11:30 yesterday--not a blip on the radar and the bay was so nice and calm, just perfect for kaying. There were many people out boating, fishing, clamming, and kayaking. We had paddled almost two miles from Holts when the dark cloud appeared so we started heading back...and then we saw a shark (fin up out of the water while chasing fish) swimming about six feet from our kayaks right along the coastline! That was odd. Then, the rain started--not a big deal if there's no thunder/lightening. Well, then THAT started. We paddled like we were on fire, and then it started getting nasty. There was a mass exodus back to the ramp although some people decided they were just going to keep clamming in the storm; I suppose they weren't going to let that pesky storm interfere with their vacation. We threw the kayaks in the pick-up and headed back in the torrential downpour. Then, we observed a large cloud with rotation on the way home, and it was later determined that it was a funnel cloud. Wow, what a day for kayaking...shark, rain, thunder, lightening, and then a funnel cloud! See, I should have just stayed in hiding.....

Default Elvis Festival

Elvis Festival! Dewey Beach, September 27-28 at the Rusty Rudder!

We go almost every year, and book a room across the street from the Rudder for the night. It's not the Ritz, but beats driving back and forth to Dover. Besides, we can roam around Dewey Beach, have dinner, sit out on the Bay, and go back and forth into the Elvis Festival whenever we want (which is on the deck on the Bay). Choices are, sitting inside, or sitting outside on the deck, around the bar. It's great fun, and kind of a celebration of the tourists being GONE! Definitely an attitude adjustment, and an event to make you forget your woes!

The Elvis Festival usually coincides with Nascar Weekend in Dover. So depending on how you think, it could be a good getaway for those not liking Nascar. We celebrate Nascar in Dover and have fun with everybody the whole week before the Nascar race, then for race weekend, head down to the Elvis Festival. Great seafood, great company, and some serious Elvi' !!!

There's just too much going on this weekend! Between the pow-wow, a couple local arts festivals, and some nearby events in Maryland--it's almost overwhelming. Of course, our beloved Fifth Annual Brews on the Beach at Hooper's in west OC was today, and we always, always attend this event. We had a wonderful time, as usual--many out-of-staters there (wait--we were out of staters) and everyone was just so friendly and laid back.

The Dewey Beach Music conference is coming up in two week, and this year will be extra special because a close friend of mine will be performing . Can't wait!

I agree, Liz! We are in a whirlwind of fun here. And yes, we will be at the Dewey Beach Music Conference! Can't imagine life without live music!!!!! Good luck to your friend! Dewey Beach is perfect for us after Labor Day. I think we'll book a room in Dewey for that Festival, like we do for the Elvis Festival. Hope they clean the bathroom good and vacuum!

Yesterday we saw the opening of the Amish Bike Tour. I didn't ride because I sold my old beach bike to a young Amish girl for $5 this past summer, and haven't picked up a new/old one yet. The Amish remove the pedals and weld on a running board to make it a scooter.

Then starting at 12:30 p.m. yesterday Harrington Casino had a free Summer Festival outside with a Battle of the Bands, Beach Boys Tribute Show, Cornhole contests, and barbequed pig (pig's not my thing). It was lots of fun! Last night we ended up at a local bonfire on a neighboring farm, and this afternoon we have a crab feast to attend at Bowers Beach. WHEW!

Send me a message, if you hear that we are going to war with Syria or anybody else, Liz! We are preoccupied!

Default Dewey Beach Music Conference

Looking for fun in all the wrong places?

How about this weekend at Dewey Beach?
NOT for those wanting peace and quiet
NOT for those wanting political conversation
NOT for those wanting to discuss the bocce tournaments

But it is for:
Music Lovers
Those loving LIVE bands
Those wanting to meet other lively people of all ages
Those wanting to dine along the Bay on fresh seafood
Those wanting to enjoy the sea breeze (and possibly a cool adult beverage - or two)
Those wanting to getaway from everyday humdrum activities

You're Late! It already started last night (Thursday) and we're late, too! But, we're heading down to Dewey in short order, taking the back roads, checking in to a cheap motel in Dewey Beach, and jumping into the fun! Who says 73 year olds need to join the Sr. citizens clubs and communities for bus trips to Lancaster?
Bah-Humbug!

Be there, or be square!
Here's a list of the bands performing and where they will be (75 bands I'm told):

And, here's some info on the conference:

My husband and I had such a fun time at the Dewey Beach Music Conference last night . We were at the Rudder and then Gary's to see my friend's band play. There were great musicians everywhere in Dewey last night, for sure.

Now, I have to go and check what's on our social calendar for next weekend and the month of October--something every weekend! It's really nice during the weekdays in Rehoboth now too; we went to Nicola's last week and it wasn't crowded at all, but just about everything was still open. I LOVE this time of the year--fall is the best!

We had a blast, too, beachliz! This is such a great thing for musicians and music lovers. What a wonderful experience, and we met so many nice people. In addition to the great music, the food and beverages were wonderful!

Next weekend is the Elvis Festival at the Rudder. We try to go to that every year, and meet our friends there, usually Saturday afternoon and night. It's always entertaining.

But, starting Tuesday night, we'll be in Dover, up and down Route 13 and at Dover Downs for all the NASCAR festivities. Every night, there's a place for us to be. The big race is Sept. 29th, this coming Sunday.

Default Nascar, Nascar, Nascar !!!

They're coming, NO THEY ARE HERE!

What a great week this has been for we die-hard NASCAR fans! It's been one whirlwind of fun meeting all the fans from everywhere, plus the drivers and pit crews!

At 6 p.m. last night, the huge NASCAR haulers (tractor trailers) paraded through Dover honking their horns! It really got a lot of people charged up. After that parade, we hurried to Dover Downs to view the sights, and meet MORE people! Tonight, the fun continues but the drivers are not usually around on Friday nights.....no partying this close to the race. So exciting for many of us....
But, for those locals who hate it, there's still time to get your bread and milk.... just like a snowstorm is coming !

We hit Millville's Great Pumpkin Festival yesterday even though it was just way too warm to get in the fall spirit. I wasn't happy to turn on my central a/c again...and it's been on for a few days now.

Last month, we enjoyed the Dewey Beach Music Conference, Brews on the Beach, and Sunfest in Ocean City. This month, we already had a fall foliage getaway to Bushkill Falls, PA on Friday and it was just gorgeous! OC Endless Summer Cruisin' is nest weekend, and that's where we'll be! We live too close to OC, MD to not take advantage of their fun too .
