Sedona, often called red rock country because its majestic red rock formations, is very beautiful, artsy/craftsy, but expensive.

We visited last Sept....it was on the cool side up in Flagstaff.........Hot as hell in Phoenix.

I believe you about the difference in temperature in just 2 hours away. Amazing.

Sedona is artsy and expensive. Was a place to visit. We did the pink jeep up the rocks. Really cool!
The whole trip was interesting since it was our first time out west. Well I was in San fran but he wasnt'.

Everyone waves as they drive down the street. The disgruntled Delawarians in my opinion, live in older established neighborhoods. We, on the other hand, are here with a fresh new perspective and are enjoying the peaceful surroundings the area has to offer.

Unfriendly neighbors are all over the US in many communities!
When we built our home in 1995 here in Pennsylvania our only neighbor was both my husbands and my high school shop teacher.
Our welcoming gift was a statement that he and his wife Keep to themselves and he is allergic to dogs.(We had one dog then and 2 now which I know he hates as I have heard him sneer when our dog barks).

No one else in the community welcomed us(a small town of 3000). But the smalltown Know your business does go on.. They love to gossip here!

I have never heard of communities or even neighbors here having a block party or get together(unless your a jock and hit the bar rooms weekly).

We are not barroom type! Rather we enjoy the arts and winetasting.
We invited our ownly neighbors many times to wine tasting get togethers. They never repy so we stopped. There are no organizations here to meet other people with like interests. This is coal county and well people do not do much of anything expect drink beer and get fat.

You are correct in saying unfriendly neighbors are all over the country and many people love to gossip. I try to stay clear of that especially since i retired. We had so much of it in work.

My old neighborhood had block parties. Not bad if you want to participate. We never did. Always went out.

What part of PA are you from?

We were looking into Jim Thorpe before we acually moved here. Only here 6 months but love it. My neighbors are very nice.

Thanks for everyone that responded.

We are currently renting (short term lease) for a few months in Greenville. It's not my favorite place so far but it's not horrible either.

I am shocked by the cost of groceries though. I heard that this area is very upper class (Dupont's) which is easy to tell by the yuppie stores and coffee shops surrounding our "Average" apartment complex. But I even thought that prices on Concord Pike were somewhat high. I paid $1.89 for a 2-liter of soda. The gas is cheaper in DE but I am freaked about the lack of a Superwalmart or Meijer or something of the sort. I went to the Superwalmart in Maryland but it's just too far to go there on a regular basis (half hour away). We have always lived very close to "superstores" and this is a very new experience for me.

Also the stores that I like are in different directions. I like Target, Super-Walmart and Babies R us. Usually i find them all close to one another...but not here. Although you can find just about everything on 202.

Our upstairs Apt. neighbor is great and we have exchanged "hellos" with our next door neighbor but that is it. I never expect much from Apt neighbors but I'm hoping that wherever we buy home people will be a little more friendly.

I am also not in love with the traffic. I know that you have this everywhere but it all relative. If we had moved here directly from Houston TX, I would be staying that the traffic is great but we moved from Pittsburgh where I found very little traffic issues.

I miss the hils of Pittsburgh too. I just don't think that Delaware has alot of character...but I will give it time, maybe it will change my mind.

Thanks!!!

Thanks!!!
We live in Kent county and I have noticed Groceries are a tad more expensive than back in Philly.
Lunchmeat in particular. We could get a lb of good ham for $4 a lb on sale. Here it is almost $8 a lb. I check safeway, acme, supper fresh and food lion.
We get our meats at Haas meat market on Route 8 near the Amish community.
But everything else we shop at wal mart, Acme, supper fresh, safeway or food lion.
you would think Wal mart is cheaper but their grapes run $298 a lb. What happend to 99cents this time of the year.
Peppers are $1 a piece. I can't believe this. I used a lot of red and green peppers but can't afford them anymore here.
We are going back to Philly next weekend for a few day and I may do some shopping before we come home.

If anyone can tell me where you get GOOD produce for a reasonable price I would appreciate this.
