Coming to Look in Middletown on Friday (real estate, daycares)

We are finally after months of research coming to meet with a realtor on Friday to start looking in Middletown. Im very excited to see and hope it lives up to my expectations. My Husband is starting to look for a teaching job down there now so if all goes well we may be on the move soon.

Any suggestion on dealing with the BOE in De? NJ is ridiculous - 3 hours on hold to get a person to tell you to go to the website which is where he couldnt find the answer and why he called! tired of running in circles.

A few random questions - what are the cable companies down there? Does Directv service the area as well? What about internet providers - also for mobile phones how is the coverage for the different carriers Att and Sprint and Verizon?

Daycare in the area - what are some of the daycares in the Middletown area and what is the average cost for them? Up in NJ its roughly 1000- 1200 a month is that about right or is it lower down in DE?

Im sure I will have more questions pop up but Im getting excited to come and see if Middletown will be my new home

Sorry, I can't help you here. Is BOE Board of Education? Schools are out on Friday, so I imagine district offices are closed.

I do believe Direct TV is available. I think Cox? too. We have Verizon FiOS. I have AT&T cell service right now and have never had a trouble. My DH has Verizon (through work) and he's had no trouble with cell service, either.

I'm not sure about the cost, but offhand I can think of the Goddard School, Great New Beginnings, Green Acres, and Kiddie Academy. I'm sure there are a ton more.

Thank you for your responses. It is helpful. Fios would be awesome - we never had that as a choice in my town so that would be nice vs cable only.

Fios is available in certain areas if not all now. DirectTV of course is here. Broadband is either Atlantic (they also have cable), Verizon DSL or FIOS. The public district is apposchooldistrict.com/
There are a couple private schools local (saintannesschool.org ). What subject does he teach as well as what grades?
I use Verizon for cell and don't have any dead spots I can think of. Welcome and good luck hunting! Oh, and do the speed limit and come to a full stop at stop signs.

daFrogMan thanks! Ive heard the warning about the speed limit already Ive warned my husband on this. We will actually meet the realtor at the first house and then jump in with her to drive around.

He has his degree to teach history(social science) in NJ it qualified him for K-12 but he really was aiming for high school. He is not certified yet, he just finished the degree a few months ago and NJ is a real pain to get certified. He is taking a few additional classes that NJ required so he has another 5 weeks before that is complete but he is able to start in Delaware without those classes from what he found. He is actually a realtor now but switching careers since real estate is just horrible and there is just no money or security. Luckily I am able to keep my job and will commute to NYC once a week. I know its a pain but still worth it to me. Plus living in NJ I had a 2 1/2 hour commute to NY from my last home. Dont see too much difference here.

I researched the appo schools and is part of our reason to move to Middletown, I have heard they are top notch.

We moved to Middletown from NJ. Never had a problem with calling our "old" schools however we did have some troubles getting in contact with and having calls returned from the schools in DE when we were researching and enrolling. Once we were able to reach a "live" person they were helpful. We use Directv and the tv option in our neighborhood is Verizon which is who we use for telephone and internet trouble free. Our cell phone service is also with Verizon and again no problems. Have fun exploring the area.

It takes us 2.5 hrs exactly to get from middletown to manhattan (we always park on staten island). too funny you need as long when you come from NJ !

We live 2 minutes from rt. 1, that makes life easier, too.

good luck with your house hunt. Ours will be on the market on 5/1, too bad
