I'd love to hear a few more predictions on what the area will be like 10-20 years from now.

Do you think any of these towns will become less tourist-oriented and become more year-round cities? Do you think more stores, malls, and car dealerships will sprout, especially near Lewes--or will it remain about the same as it is now?

Do you think there is any potential for future business growth--and if so, what sort of businesses. (In other words, is DE a business friendly state--are they actively seeking companies?)

Flip side of the question.... do you think the beach areas are likely to shrink over the next decade, especially if the economy does not improve? Will we someday see a sea of foreclosed homes in all those developments that went up over the past decade? Or... will retiring baby boomers start moving to DE in droves and snap all those homes up, leading to a construction boom?

So you didn't know Delaware is the corporate capital?

Thanks for the links, and no--I didn't know that! Boy, I have so many things to learn about Delaware. It's funny how you can vacation in a place year after year, and as a result you feel you know it so well. Then you think about moving there, and realize how much you don't know.

I'm not sure I shared this with you already, but here is the latest edition of the Delaware Data Book:

http://dedo.delaware.gov/pdfs/main_root/publications/DelawareDatabook-May2011.pdf (broken link)

Between this publication, and the knowledge of RDLR, Beachliz and so many others who contribute to this forum, there's much data available.

I was a budget director when I worked for a living, so I've been reading the 189 pages of the 2011-2012 Kent County Budget, also available online. (Not word for word, but picking up all the data that interests me) I don't know for certain, but I'd guess that the other two county budgets are also available somewhere on the web.

The beach may have it's problems, but I'll tell you one thing that tips the balance and makes it the place we want to retire--your weather is so much nicer than DC's this week. Being next to the ocean keeps it from getting too hot or too cold.

I didn't think it was at all nice in Rehoboth Beach yesterday... 100 degrees, and so humid, like the rest of the state. I guess IN the ocean, there's relief.

It hit 100 yesterday? LOL,so much for my high hopes. My weather software must have a glitch. It was claiming Rehoboth never got above 88 yesterday. (Wouldn't be the first mistake I've caught, either. Maybe it's time to try a different site.)

Hey, while we're on the issue of weather, is there any difference between the weather in Lewes and the weather in Bethany? Is Bethany just far enough south that it gets less snow, for example?

Well, I wasn't on the boardwalk catching any sea breezes. Maybe that's where the weather people check. I was working in the commercial downtown area. Earlier, I was in Wilmington working, and I thought it might get better when I headed south.....but it didn't, at least not where I was in Rehoboth Beach.

Bethany Beach is about 10-12 miles south of Rehoboth...and Lewes, maybe 5-6 miles from Rehoboth Beach? So, I don't know if 18-20 miles would make a difference in weather patterns. I've traveled a lot on Rt. 1 during snow storms, and there's usually more snow drifting between Dewey Beach and Indian River.

Interesting. I wonder if the inlet has something to do with this?
