Has anyone used Beebe Medical Center? What did you think of their services?

There have been many posts about the medical center, Caladium. I ran a quick search for individual posts, and came up with this list. http://www.city-data.com/forum/searc...rchid=30356763

NOTE: Click on the smaller font link in each entry for the specific post that mentioned Beebe, and then read the posts down from there to see what others commented.

Hope you find what you are seeking.

Beebe is constantly expanding. In addition to the main hospital in downtown Lewes they have a center for outpatient surgery ,x rays and lab work out of town and several labs spread out throughout the area for blood tests and that sort of thing. Going to the outlying facilities it is pretty much in and out dealing with friendly people.
Off season the ER is not bad during a summer weekend there are a lot of delays due to overcrowding.
During times when I or my family members have been patients we have been well cared for by pleasant people.

Thanks for the links! I'll read through them all--it's great to see that this has already been discussed quite a bit.

My friends are concerned about my recent talk of retiring in Rehoboth/Lewes. They warn that medical specialists/hospital facilities are good for basic care, but we'll have to travel to Baltimore for more specialized care as we get older and develop more serious problems.

I'm not sure how true this might be or if it might be outdated worries that the new medical center has erased.

I've had three surgeries and gave birth to my son at Beebe--no problems at all. I've also used their ER for emergencies on more occasions than I'd like to admit, but thankfully it's been a few years now.

I've also used their lab and x-ray services; in fact, I'll be visiting the one in Millville next month for the very first time. I would recommend Beebe and any lab or doctor affiliated with them. We are very fortunate to have excellent doctors and medical care here at the beach--yet another highlight of the area.

Possibly, but I cannot say for sure. Beebe is constantly expanding. I've never had to seek treatment outside the local area, but I know others have who had serious health issues (brain surgery, etc.)

Tell all those people that the rumor is true, then move here, and they won't.

Geezzz....I've been hearing that for 71 years. Granted, a couple members of our family have gone to Thomas Jefferson Hospital in Philly (1.5 hour ride) and a couple have gone to Baltimore (1.5 hour ride) but those trips were for more complex health problems. Our hospitals here are great!
Here's a link to, maybe, put you at ease.

We live in Kent county and have been hearing quite a few people bash DE's health care for the past 4 years. We have only been here 4 years.
Just the other night coming back from Kent General emergency, Hubby and I were talking about what excellent care he had recieved and how we just love our primary care physcian along with all the specialist hubby vists.
I told him what I was reading on CD and how people moved out of state because of the horrible health care they have recieved????? He just said I guess that was there experience
but
Our experience has been a good one and we also found several excellent dentist too.

Here's a spot where I can actually stick in my two cents with some knowledge. In my 29 years as a hospital administrator before retiring, I worked in five New York medical centers and consulted for a few others in New York and New Jersey. I can tell you that in general, hospitals do a lot of things right and in varying degrees, a few things wrong.

It's been my experience that the biggest determinant of how people feel about hospitals is not the competency of the staff, the skill of the practitioners or the strength of the support teams. It's how they personally feel about the experience they had while a patient or a visitor. If the experience was a success, they leave with good feelings. If the experience was less than positive, they leave with bad feelings.

We found that those who have a bad experience are seven times more likely to talk about their experiences than those who had a good one. So more often, you'll hear the bad and not the good. This is a national statistic, so Delaware probably fits somehere there in the averages. Believe it or not, sometimes, the fact that the meals were too bland or the transporter took too long or the phlebotomist couldn't get blood the first time is many times the fact that makes someone react badly to a hospital.

Specifically for Kent General, they hired someone about four years ago to direct their patient care services who worked with me at one of my hospitals for eight years. She ran the clinical side and I ran the administrative side and we were a very strong team together. In my 29 years, she is the most gifted, knowledgeable and clinically sound practitioner I ever had the pleasure with which to work. If she is as effective as Kent as she was at our medical center, then you can depend on the care you'll get at Kent General with confidence.

From an additional perspective as a cancer patient with several ongoing issues that currently require the continued intervention of five different physician specialties, I will have complete confidence in using the services of Kent General, and from what I've seen in the JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization) reports, I'd have no problem with Christina, Beebe or Nanticoke either.

Beebe Medical Center in Lewes is so good at treating pneumonia that its readmission rate is one of the lowest in the nation, even while its death rate from heart failure is the state's highest.
Bayhealth Medical Center had the lowest rate of deaths from heart failure and pneumonia and the lowest rate of readmission from heart attacks among Delaware hospital health systems. But its readmission rate for pneumonia is one of the nation's highest.
Those are some of the findings in the latest data released by the federal U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for its Hospital Compare website. The website, intended to give patients a broad picture of the quality of treatment that hospitals provide, shows it is possible in Delaware to excel in one area while falling short in another.
Interesting NewJournal article for those with questions

My medical center here in VA has a real problem with nickel and diming us to death. I needed to get copies of our medical records and was shocked to have to pay $40 for my own records. Does Beebe nickel and dime people like that? I know it's a little thing, but things like that may end up being the things I appreciate most about DE.
