Lewes and Rehoboth area:
Hi Everyone, This may be a topic that has been discussed on another thread, but it is about a year old. We are considering moving and want to be able to bike or ride a moped to the beach. The home prices seem to rise significantly and want to be sure it is a good investment.

Buy you home because you want to live there and love your home. A question relative to "investment" is like asking another persons view on art. Some will like it, some will love it and others will hate the same piece that you like. If one of your "must haves" is biking distance to the beach, then you will have to pay up for that unless you choose another area away from "the beaches".

We are currently looking and during our last visit ruled out one location that is biking distance to the beach and added one that is not. One of our "must haves" was biking distance to the beach, but we have now seen another place that is just a little bit too far to ride to the beach BUT the house hits all our other "must haves". All things being equal, I would love to be biking distance but we looked at the reality of all we gained going a bit further away and weighed it against living closer and we think we know which way we are going to go. That said, we are not going until next summer so we will see what is available then and make our decision on available inventory at that time.

I'd suggest you move on the east side of Coastal Highway (Route 1) if you want to bike to the beach. Crossing, or riding along on Coastal Highway is pure suicide, and I know of that first hand, having lost some friends who wanted to bike from the west side, to the east side of Coastal Highway. Safety first. Along the water (east side of Coastal Highway) is always a better investment.

Hello - Thanks so much for the response. We are pretty sure we are going to purchase a home East of Route 1. It just seems that you get so much more for your money even just a mile West. That prompted my question about investment. We found something we really like - it has all of the must haves but it is a little more than we wanted to spend. Amy

Even though it's only one mile west, there is always a reason real estate is priced the way it is. If you can afford it, you'll avoid untold frustration by living east of Route 1. If you have not not traveled to Rehoboth or Lewes from the west side of Route 1 on a summer weekend, do so. I think it will help you make your decision.

Good luck
