From Philly I certainly wouldn't make Rehoboth a day trip. Off season a lot of shops only open at the weekends and some bars close seasonally. Most restaurants are open normal hours, except in the interval between New Year's Day and Valentine's Day when some places close down entirely. Rehoboth is charming but I really wouldn't call it quaint. Quaint is Lewes, about 15 minutes north of Rehoboth and a somewhat more "normal" town that is more fully open throughout the year. Rehoboth has a few very good restaurants. With the exception of drinking Dogfish beer at the Dogfish Head Restaurant I don't greatly care for Rehoboth's bar scene. The gay bar scene BTW is quite limited. Aqua, a largely outdoor bar, can be fun and frenetic but is closed out of season; the bar at Blue Moon also can be a good time and there is sometimes some good entertainment. We don't go to the other gay bars/clubs for various reasons (past our middle aged bedtime, too dead, etc).

Just wanted to add that from Philly, Lewes and Rehoboth would be fine for an overnighter, especially if you drive down early in the day (we usually try to leave home here in suburban Wilmington by around 9.30 a.m.). Nice places to stay are the Hotel Rodney in Lewes - an old 1920s hotel that has been turned into a boutique hotel (ask about the suites, which are unique, small and not very pricey), the Bellmoor Inn in Rehoboth (especially on the adults-only 4th floor), the Hotel Rehoboth (not as luxurious as the Bellmoor but one of the nicer places in town).

I would second that a day trip in the off season can be quiet, but...with nice weather, can be really nice. You can always find a gallery, restaurant or stroll on the boardwalk very worth it. You always have the outlets if it rains!

Thats wonder and isn't that he way it should be. Everyone live together in harmony.

Just to be clear: I would suggest an overnight trip rather than a day-trip. Too much driving for one day, not very relaxing (unless you enjoy being behind the wheel) and too rushed (even with some things being closed out of season), as well as problematic if you enjoy having some drinks.

Agreed, you can also get lower in town rates at the hotels and guest houses this time of year.

However, the hotel/motel rooms are pretty much trashed in the medium price range after being abused all summer. We wait until November to stay overnight, after they've either shampooed or replaced the carpets, and have done some painting and clean-up. Atlantic Sands we used to enjoy, but they need to do some major cleaning and renovating. Tonight, we'll make a trip down for the Elvis Competition at the Rudder, drive home about 11 p.m. and return to the Rudder Saturday afternoon for the finals. It's less than a 40 minute trip one-way for us, back roads.
