I've been running the Gordons Pond trail lately--love the new boardwalk! This is such a wonderful and scenic place to run, hike, or bike. I'm also looking forward to the completion of the Junction and Breakwater extension.

You can visit White Clay a dozen times and not walk on the same trail. It's a great place to hike.

Default Pocket Ranger

Has anyone downloaded and used the Pocket Ranger mobile app?

I came across it researching Clay Creek State Park to see if it was good for bicycling. The app says it is The Official Guide for Delaware State Parks, and looks pretty neat.

Here's the link:

Outdoor Mobile Apps | Parks | Fish & Wildlife | Pocket Ranger

Enjoy!

I tried it on a tablet. Didn't work for me but I'm a map and compass kind of guy.

If you like walking the point at Cape Henloen do it NOW. The annual closing of the beach to protect nesting birds will begin shortly and last all summer.

I attended the ribbon cutting ceremony today for the new Assawoman Canal Trail. I saw our governor for the first time in person, and I really enjoyed hearing Senator Hocker (who grew up here) tell stories from his youth regarding swimming in the canal and trying to maintain its upkeep via dredging over the years. It was a pleasant ceremony, and I was happy to attend.

Needless to say, I am beyond excited over this new addition to my town . Another trail to run and bike! We already checked it out a couple weeks ago, and I am impressed with this first phase of the trail. Good job done by everyone involved, and it makes me proud to see Delaware becoming more and more pedestrian and bicyclist friendly.

Default Amish Country Bike Tour

My wife and I just attended our first ever Amish Country Bike Tour in Dover. Wonderfully organized event, and the rain was kind enough to hold off until most riders had completed the course (except for the 62 and 100 mile course folks, who IMO must be crazy so they probably enjoyed cycling in the rain).

The scenery is pleasant, although I was a bit surprised that a pretty good portion of the roads didn't have a shoulder. Lightly traveled by cars, though, and they seemed to understand how to share the road with the cyclists with no problems. Best of all, the pie at the Amish School House was even better than I anticipated, and the pulled pork sandwich at the end of the event was terrific.

Thoroughly enjoyable day, and if you are a cyclist, I highly recommend.

Just another reason why Delaware is such a great place to live!

Glad you enjoyed it! We were out and about the area on business appointments, most of the day, and allowed extra time. Out of the shoot, at Legislative Hall, was a sea of bicyclists. Luckily, the police helped us get through that area. Bicyclists were everywhere, most courteous and abiding by the rules. Some, were real road hazards.

Of course "country" means country roads, with no shoulders. That's what we are.
