For those near Newark Delaware,

Elk Neck State Park & Fair Hill both have nice nature trails also...

I was just at Elk Neck today for the first time! Wow....didn't realize it was that big!! The fall foliage was in full color and the weather was just beautiful. I didn't even need my jacket. The trails are excellent and the lighthouse is a must see. Ok, I'll quit rambling now...but it is a great place to visit if you live in northern Delaware, particularly if you live close to Newark.

I meant to visit White Clay Creek afterward, but I became so hung up in taking pictures and hiking the trails that it was dinner time when we left. Sigh....

I was amazed by the bluffs!! Wow, quite a drop in some areas.

Yes, I saw a few hawks near the lighthouse. The entire park is a nature lover's paradise, for sure.

I plan to visit Elk Neck this fall or winter.
White Clay is the only other SP I've hiked north of the Ditch.
I've hiked about every trail/track below it. State parks, forests and a few nice trails set up by the Nature Conservancy. I think they have a few in NC county.
Sassafras River NRMA near Galena has some nice walking tracks and a few +/-40' bluffs on the south side of the river. Time it right so you can walk the sandy river bank at low tide and you will be rewarded with an unusually beautiful view.

Nice thread. Cycling in northern DE sounds lovely. It's funny that you hate to see the leaves fall--I'd imagine it's a happy sight for cyclists in southern DE, as it means traffic dies down.

Can you please be more specific of what trails you are talking about.

What does north of the Ditch refer to?

Thanks for you input...

How does anyone who claims to live in Delaware NOT know what is meant by "north of the ditch"?
