One of my most dreaded routes to travel (other than Rt. 1 Coastal Hwy. around Lewes) is Rt. 24, John J. Williams Hwy. I usually travel west, and the steady stream of traffic from west (D.C.-Baltimore) to east has really become a hazard. With it being a 2-way highway, so many daring drivers absolutely NEED to pass everyone else to beat them to the beach. I've hit the shoulder many a time in an effort to avoid a head-on. They've added more traffic lights, which may or may not have helped. As Liz said, we just don't have the infrastructure to handle this huge influx. I thought I had NO complaints about Delaware, but I guess no place is fault-free!

Rt 24 seems to have more than it's share of markers on the side of the road where people have been killed. If the road is closed good luck finding your way around an accident on the rural roads.

Our roads cannot handle all these people though, although they are widening route 26 which will be nice.

I lived in Oak Orchard from 1985-1995 and back then there was NOTHING, just a convenience store down by the water and a liquor store across the street from it. Oh, and the gas station on route 24 that's been there forever. Other than that, there was much of nothing there until the past 10-15 years. Crazy how things change...
LOL.. I remember that. Don't forget you had that bar too which i am not sure if i recall the name correctly? Riverside inn? Longneck had a few of them as well and thus the one thing it did have even back when.

A few of the people who have lived there their whole life hate what has happened and continues to happen there with the development. Lucky for some of them a big part of that area if i recall right was privately owned by some Indians who atleast back when refused to sell any of it. This could have changed though? Remember Red Dog or whatever the heck that dudes name was? That is the biggest thing i can recall there in the years i lived in the area. Was a very very quiet area with alot of old time locals and not many of the tourist and or seasonal people like Long Neck had.

They are really widening 26 huh? What do they plan to do? If i recall correctly some structures sat very close to that road? This had become a nightmare right before i had moved away with the traffic. I usually avoided it like the plague.

Back when your biggest worry was a deer jumping out at you. But yeah i too saw it go down some with the accidents etc. Was never really *that* bad though because it was a well known spot for the state boys to hang out and nab people. Back then 404 ( i bet this too has gotten even worse ) was the nightmare especially on the Maryland side. 90 going into OC was another bad one back when before they tossed up that divider.

I knew a couple of those people. sigh.. How long have you lived there? I lived in Bay City during most of the 90s. Worked there too.

Anyways if i knew it was gonna be real bad ( Weekend in summer especially ) and i had to get to Lewes or whatever i would take 23 ( aka Beaver Dam rd ) etc to 5 points. Ofcourse by now the traffic on that may have increased too which would make that worse then 24 because it is alot more windier with some decent curves and blind spots.

We may have run into each other. I have lived in PotNets Bayside(used to be known as Pot Nets East) since July of 93.
It's been a few years since I had to go into Lewes itself during peak traffic. I have seen 5 Points backed up with traffic on Rt1 so that you could not get across.

Yes, I remember Riverside. I've never been there because I only lived in Oak Orchard until I was 20, but yep....that was the hangout for locals.

I remember Red Dog--my mom locked us in the house, LOL!! Luckily, I lived in a quiet, newer community, but surrounding communities were rather scary and brought in crime. There wasn't much to do in Oak Orchard unless you were a drug addict or drug dealer....which I was neither and jumped at the chance to leave!!

They are placing turn lanes in the middle of route 26 and also widening the shoulder for bicyclists and pedestrians, and for this I am grateful. I just noticed last week that we are getting a sidewalk on Fred Hudson Road--that will be wonderful!! This road leads right to route one and is used by many bikers and pedestrians during the summer months.

Hey now!!, I've lived in Angola by the Bay for a whole week and travel rt24 everyday, you guys are supposed to be posting how rt 24 has no traffic, lol. Everything is finally unpacked, we have been shopping at the Giant, (well the wife has anyway) on 24 and Longneck rd I think. 30 cents a gallon off gas isn't a bad deal, course the food is probably more expensive. Lots off grocery stores down here, more than I thought anyway and I think I've been to Walmart on rt 1 everyday. Wow it's nice to go to a Walmart and not worry about getting mugged or stabbed like the ones up north ( its why I never went to one up north).

My kids had tryouts for the Rehoboth Little League this past Saturday and I was suprised by the lack of kids, I'm hearing Lacrosse for boys is pretty big down here, not as much back north.

Finally, I'm in a development where there are lots of kids my kids age and they actually go to the same schools (WOW) yea!!!

I've only been called a Yank and northerner a few times so far which I get a kick out of, my mom whose from England would say " You're all Yanks to us, southern or northern"

Its only been a week and I've been checking out a freshwater pond on 24 for some fishing since spring and summer are coming and rt24 will be a nightmare, but its the sacrifice I'll make to live here...

They do not serve any fried foods at all and don't have facilities for frying. They use alternative techniques to simulate the textural effect of frying in some cases, though mainly they do roasting and grilling as cooking methods. They do a good deal of Asian-fusion stuff. Definitely worth a visit.

That sounds right up my alley! And very similar to Seasons 52 (but their menu changes weekly). I will definitely have to check that out, thanks!

Sign up for a Vic card and have Harris Teeter specials emailed to you. They are a little expensive but they have some really great specials and their 2 1/2 dozen large egg pack is the best deal around. As you have seen we have 3 supermarkets within a mile or so of each other.

It is funny the distance of a few miles make. We have no Lacrosse programs for younger kids and most of Central's kids hold their first lacrosse stick at first practice. In Cape district there are several programs for younger kids and it shows in their high school play. They are among the best.
In regard to traffic remember this is March.

If the gas prices stay high, the Summer may not be as bad, maybe,.... I know its March and I have about a month or so of freedom on the roads but thats o.k.

Back up north ( not saying home anymore) we went to Target and it was about 2.5 to 3 miles away from our house, the Walmart in Rehoboth is about 5 miles away and I still get there faster than I did the Target up north, I know it won't last but heck if I get around faster for 8 months a year compared to all year being slow, I'll take it.

Ha! My son is in the MOT lacrosse league, and they played some of the Salisbury area teams last year. Those kids were insanely good at 8! Some of them had been playing for years, and they also had a winter league so they had tons of practice.
