Default Senate Bill 129 - Coyotes

Coyotes are being seen more frequently in Delaware, and in Kent County, quite often. On my travels today, I saw 2 along the border of a heavily wooded area, in broad daylight, near Hartly. I also have been hearing 'something' howling at night, maybe coyotes. Legislators are discussing the issue of 'open season' on coyotes. Here's some background on the topic.

Thanks for posting this, rdlr! I have seen one in my development and definitely heard them howling in the vacant lot next to me at night. My husband often comes home late at night, and I worry for his safety.

I've never heard of a coyote attacking an adult human. I suppose it could happen with a rabid animal. I've run into coyotes at close quarters in the suburbs of Austin, TX on the border of developed and undeveloped land. They run away in my experience. Not to say that they may not be a significant nuisance or problem, but their adaptability to the environments created by humans is quite remarkable. Wolves have been driven to near extinction, but coyotes - even in places where they are routinely shot or poisoned - have just gone from strength to strength.
