Default Grocery Store in Greenville?

Years ago, my cousin took me to a lovely grocery store (non-chain) in Greenville. I wonder if it's still there, but can't think of the name of it. It sold a lot of specialty/gourmet items and was either very close to or on 52. Anyone know what it's called and if it's still there? Thanks

It's Janssen's, in all likelihood. It used to be in a strip just down the road from where it is now -- Greenville Place II. It is now in the shopping centre at the corner of 52 and Buck Road, and occupies the space that for a while was another upscale grocery that was, in fact, part of a small chain and which closed in 2007. Janssen's has a lot more space and light in its present location, much better than the old one (which is now occupied by the re-incarnation of the old Brandywine Brewing Co., now called BBC Tavern -- in turn, the space that used to house the Brandywine Brewing Co. now houses Pizza by Elizabeths, which itself used to be located in Greenville Place II, next to the old Janssen's location). Oh sorry, are you sufficiently confused now? Janssen's is pricey but their butcher dept. can't be beat. Since we live just down the road from them, we do a very limited amount of shopping there, but still get most of our supermarket purchases at the Super G on 202. Janssen's is fully family-owned.

THAT'S IT!!! Doctorjef, you are AMAZING!!! I can remember that the floors were CARPETED back then (mid-80's perhaps?). I was truly wowed . I would love to stop by the new one. I remember her also taking me to Buckley's Tavern, which I read has gone out of business. She lived in PA on Hillspring Road near Mendenhall, but she loved shopping and hanging out in Delaware. Thanks a BUNCH!

The new Janssen's looks so much better than the old location. Buckley's will be reopening, early summer, which is later than originally expected. It's unclear as yet who will be managing the actual food operations. I expect they will be retaining the Buckley's name, since it is such a trademark. The owners decided to get rid of their old tenants, which is why the place was closed. It is being rennovated, but the owners of the property seem to have been indecisive about how to proceed with the actual restaurant operations.
